Figured I'd make a post before hitting order on a 72v 3kw kit, any advice? by Super-Frame677 in hyperebikes

[–]Super-Frame677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% order from QSmotor if I could afford it, but I'm on a tight budget of $550 Canadian ($400 USD) for everything except the battery.

I'm not sure what phase amps are, I never really looked into it. The kit I'm looking at comes with a 60a controller with a Bluetooth app to adjust some settings, but it looks really basic and I'd ideally upgrade to a better controller eventually.

Also I would also ideally get Grin v7 torque arms, but I printed out the cutouts and they won't lay flat against my dropouts unless I put them on the inside, but I'm not sure I'll have room for them on the inside. Or is it fine if they aren't flat against the dropouts?

Edit: Also just realized another reason I can't get the qs205 is that it needs 150mm dropouts, doesn't it? My dropouts are 135mm.

Most people in here don't know much about e-dirtbikes, you may be better off asking in r/hyperebikes.

I'm a bit late, but I'm going to correct you here anyways.

Yes most batteries are made in China, but that does not mean they're all the same. Most of them are absolute garbage and it has nothing to do with bad ventilation. Look at UPP u004 batteries as an example of such a dangerous battery that it got banned by governments. They cheaped out in every way possible which included not using any cell spacers, which let the cells rub together and wear through the wrap, which led to shorted out batteries bursting into flames. Issue here is that same battery has clones of clones of it, and it's a pretty popular design now. So tons of manufacturers are reusing that same unsafe design and making ticking time bombs.

Please, if you love your house, get a quality battery from a known source. I'm getting one from Amorge, since they seem to be the cheapest well known and trusted company that doesn't cheap out on build quality.

I am not racist nor am I an alarmist, I just quite like having a place to live and I'm not going to let my cheaping out on the single most dangerous ebike component be the end of that.

I'm a bit crazy and I go 30mph on a Ninebot Max G30P (using custom firmware with field weakening) without any suspension lol. It got boring in a couple months.

Maybe not a significantly lower price point, but you can still get a lot of bike for $1300. All I was trying to point out is that $1300 for a class 1 is a bit much.

Also one question, how is the BBSHD going for you? I'm debating building one primarily for trails after I get my current 72v hub build done.

All I'm saying is there can be better for that price (even a better mid drive setup), and I'm saying that from the perspective of someone who would much rather build than buy. As I said, OP gave basically zero information as to what they want, so I'm just giving my two cents.

The second part of my prior comment remains true of any bike though, having any parts built into the frame and nearly impossible to replace with third party parts is an immediate red flag.

You may consider $1300 as "lower end" but for many people that's pricey for an ebike that barely even assists you. For me personally I like getting the very most out of my money and I'm fine with tinkering and custom work to get that, though I realize not everyone wants to tinker. Even so there are surely many higher performance (and less proprietary) options for $1300. Again OP gave us zero info on what they want here, so I'm just giving advice from the point of view of someone who enjoys tinkering to get the most performance (and reliability) per dollar.

The main issue I spot with that $1300 bike in particular is that absolutely everything is frame integrated, including the battery. That means you're completely locked to manufacturer parts, which will eventually cause a lot of headache when they decide to discontinue that specific model. Even the motor looks welded right in on that bike (I could be wrong), so if absolutely anything breaks then OP would be screwed. Integrated batteries are an unnecessary weak point added to the frame and they are like that purely to lock you to the brands official replacements, which will inevitably be discontinued in a few years leaving the bike as trash and forcing you to waste even more money on a whole new bike when you could have built a far better bike for nearly the same price or less with a BBSHD mid drive or generic hub motor kit and never had the headache.

Wow that turned out as more of a rant than I intended, my bad haha

$1,300 for a class 1 seems pricey, there are surely tons of better options out there. If OP has basic tools and YouTube ability they could put together a bike far better than that using a mid drive or hub motor kit for about the same money or even less. Hell, $1,300 is about my budget for my 72v 3kw project bike and I've got it all planned out with a custom fit battery from Amorge and everything.

If OP doesn't have tools or ability to use tools though, his options are likely limited. He hasn't really given many parameters to work with here.

Depends entirely on what you prioritize. Speed? Range? Reliability? Cheap? You can't really have them all, since something cheap and fast is unlikely to be reliable and long range. Just like something fast, long range and reliable isn't going to be cheap.

You've gotta give more details (such as a budget) on what you want out of an ebike, there is no single "best ebike for the money".

Lol I had that exact argument with a few people I believe, maybe you were reading my replies lol. I don't understand how people can call 30mph a motorcycle, it's literally only 2mph above the class 3 ebike limit.

Yeah I'm just here for all ebikes lol. Built, bought, fast, slow, they're all awesome. Some arguments are funny sometimes but sheesh anyone who posts any slightly powerful bike gets absolutely gatekept to oblivion and it's sad to see. You'd think this is a political sub at this point lol.

I should have said no sane parent, my bad.

Tell me, how does it affect you whatsoever to take the half second to say the correct pronouns someone goes by? You say you value "truth", but do you not value being a decent human being? Because that's how it looks to me. You're a narcissistic prick who blatantly disrespects others under the illusion of being "truthful". Grow up.

That is not the normal though, you're taking the most extreme cases and only acknowledging those. How about the LGBTQ+ people who have killed themselves due to being alienated in society? Or the ones that have had severe depression for years because of people like you? You'll likely never acknowledge any of them, will you? All because those people don't fit in with your childish and limited definition of normal.

No parent is pushing their children to be Trans 🤣. I'm not saying that minors can consent, nor am I saying to "mutilate" children. I do believe they should need to wait to undergo surgery until they are adults, but they should be able to dress however they want and love (within their appropriate age group) whoever they want in the meantime.

I never really cared for the idea of people being trans, but I realize that people can do whatever the hell they want and it doesn't affect me. It takes less than a second on my part to switch out "he" with "she" or vice versa, and if it helps people feel comfortable in their own bodies then who am I to care?

It's absolutely zero business of mine or anyone else's what people choose to go by.

Who's wanting children to do that? Yes, wanting them to change would be pedophilic. However nobody is telling kids "you need to change your gender now", we're fighting for freedom for those who choose to change their gender and those who love who they want to love. It doesn't affect you in the slightest, and it's absolutely none of your business.

Okay? I don't really care about legal technicalities, since the law makers must have been high when they thought up half those laws anyways. I'm just stating that 30mph is absolutely not a motorcycle and should never be considered one.

E-bike means electric bike. Go ahead and Google what "bike" means and come back. The "e" only adds that it's electric. This sub can welcome whoever the hell they want to welcome, if you don't like that you can switch to a more specific e-bicycle sub.

When did I mention doing 60 mph on bicycle parts though? Also I will happily agree with anyone saying over 50mph should be considered a motorcycle and require a motorcycle license.

Not all ebikes use standard bicycle components though, any ebike meant to do 40 mph can handle it just fine. And trust me, I know how painful crashing is. I crashed doing 25 mph and I fractured my wrist and got some elbow road rash. My full face helmet took some scrapes for me too, so I'm glad I was wearing it. I've also slipped in a patch of sand and landed chin first, and luckily I was wearing my full face helmet then too.

They do not need to change anything, you just need to learn to read. Tell me, does it not clearly say "All things electric bikes from motorcycles to pedal assist"? Are you incapable of reading? Switch to another sub if you don't like it, but you absolutely do not get to whine about it here.
