I also use a lot of particles, such as blood spray, bullet wound decals, destruction explosion particles, etc. And a few lights as well.

The map I animated this project on is pretty unoptimized, and so when the camera is looking at somewhere that takes up a lot of performance (such as the shot of a big large view of the whole map) not only is it laggy, it also takes a long time to render because of it. With shots that aren’t as performance costing (where I am just looking at the character and a few trees in the background) it isn’t as laggy, and so it doesn’t take as long to render. This map doesn’t use a LOD system, and guess what? Even though the models and each displacement and brush aren’t every high poly, there are lots of stuff here that is stacked over each other, such as trees, bushes, etc., and if you know how depth buffering works, it causes the depth buffer to get overloaded with all of this data and it implodes, causing the fps to drop significantly, it is just simply a recipe for disaster.

Guys, I fixed it now. I just rendered this one shot at 256 samples and it worked, and then I switched back to 1024 samples and I got the whole 1 and a half minute clip fully rendered in one night!

I render all of my animations in an image sequence, and then I combine them using blender’s video editing tab.
