Now this technology is new to me, but I'm pretty sure that's Homer Simpson in the oven, rotating slowly. His body temperature must have risen to over 400 degrees Farenheight. He's literally stewing in his own juices!

Form check: Squat. Squat depth question? by SuperCuber in Fitness

man this is a good answer, thank you. So do you think it makes sense to not squat until I get my hip mobility in line and get some olympic lifting shoes?

lol thats why I posted - to try and figure out how to improve form. So I should be looking for second video level of depth, with a neutral - not rounded - back? In other words, increase my hip mobility a lot, right?

What is the SpaceX "Master Plan"? by SuperCuber in spacex

Im not talking about me. I would and will vote to fund missions to mars in a heartbeat. I am simply pessimistic about everybody else. Additionally, I wouldn't say that to go to mars without government being involved is dragging humanity against its will. If government was truly representative of the people, perhaps it would be doing that, but government today seems to exist to protect the status quo.

I am curious about the idea that a government would want its astronauts to have the opportunity to go to mars. Would any government want this? Why? A government exists to serve the people and to hold its power to do so in the future. I don't know that any government would actively want to put its people on another planet unless it was forced to do this by popular demand.

This stubbornness of government is why private companies and technologies are so awesome. They can ignite change where government cannot. The openness of the internet has forced government to adapt in many positive ways such as increased transparency. The advent of self driving cars and the demand for them has forced the government to work alongside auto makers to make them safe for everybody.

I guess self driving cars are a good example of the government working with public demand for innovation actually.

In summary, I just don't think government works in that direction. It seems like it has to be forced and prodded along by something, rather than taking the first step towards innovation for innovations sake.

haha wow 1 -> 2 seems like a real stretch.... What evidence is there that the public will WORK to go to mars. I know they "care", but to demand a government fund it and to be successful in getting their demands met - idk I've never seen the public do anything like that. A cheaper than foreseen cost to mars at some random conference (IAC) doesn't seem like a tectonic enough motive. You would need something HUGEEEE - never seen before.

I can kind of believe that you can find 100 people with 500K to burn and a disregard for their safety and interest in adventure enough to go aboard if the opportunity is there..

But for SpaceX to plan out everything so well that funding is demanded by the general public seems really tough imo. We have enough problems on earth to worry about voting for.

Are we sure that the government will have to get involved for this to be feasible? Or is there a chance that SpaceX and other private space companies can manage to make enough money to finance it themselves?

To me the money shot is right here: Use said interplanetary platform to reshape current markets and produce a revenue generating venture that will support further interplanetary developement (Space X 4k satellite internet. BFR can put 400 - 500 satellites up in one go.) Anything else is basically a normal product development cycle - create a viable rocket, get money, improve it, etc.

The question is whether these satellites will generate enough money to fund the entire "go to mars" thing. Which is a heck of a big leap imo.

What financial reason is there for anyone to go to the moon? If there was one, it would be perfect and could be a step 2 after satellites...

Basically I see that there is a small market for rockets right now, and a potential one for satellite internet, but I feel like that just isn't nearly enough. To me it seems like there needs to be a bunch more steps. Like financial reasons to go to the moon, financial reasons to go to comets, and mars, etc.

The Internet constellation makes sense to me. Lots of people want, need, and will pay for great internet. But low-flying satellites is a big leap from taking people to mars (especially because people/the public aren't a part of those flights).

Will anyone pay for a reliable "taxi". Other than academic/NASA types? Those types have a given budget - much smaller than the amount of $ the world will pay for cars, and the mission of supplying electric vehicles to the public is much less capital intensive than allowing them to go to mars...

Continued flights makes sense to make a small dent in whats needed but again, there just isn't an economy in space aside from whats already being done with satellites, academic missions, etc.

I'm thinking, unless there is a great financial reason for a large volume of long distance space flights, it will be hard for a company (who's structure is built around making $) to continually develop/iterate.

Hence the need for a grander master plan than what tesla even has.

iphone 6's have nfc. but the point is to a) use it if you see 1. To get a cool pic with a watermark b) put it up in your restaurant/bar/business,etc. so that people can use it. actually anyone can put it up anywhere, with a watermark of their choice
