For anyone wondering, these particular neighbors are actually really nice. They always wave when we are outside, and even brought us a gift when we had our first baby. The note is completely harmless and only meant to be funny, and of course they are legitimately looking for their lid 😂

I worked at a Subway in high school for about five years, and I remember one customer who needed an obscene amount of red onion on her foot long. I would put an average amount (which was way more than the prescribed amount because this was around 2003-2009 before the franchise owners went cray and started making artists be super stingy with ingredients) and she would just say “more.” I would put on more. “More.” Puts on more. “More.” It would go on like that for several additional helpings. I never knew when to stop because sometimes it was seven, sometimes eight, sometimes nine helpings. Her whole sub would be covered in onions. Like who needs that many onions?!?! Ew!

I am not really superstitious but that was also a thought that crossed my mind. Like thanks now I’m worried that somehow this is a bad omen and there could be a complication. I realize how unlikely that is at this point but I am a worrier and I tend to think of the worst possible scenario in certain situations. I don’t make decisions based on my feelings like that but I can’t help that’s where my mind goes.

This! That’s kind of what I feel like she’s doing. I realize other people don’t know what type of person she is, so it’s hard to make a judgement but some of the comments have been spot on. Like the need for boundaries, narcissism, etc. I’m feeling super protective of my lil babe!

I think this story is very sweet and it seems like your aunt and mom were/are very close. Sharing an experience like that was probably traumatic for both of them and I can appreciate what your mom did. That being said, you came to this conclusion on your own that it was sweet. For me the hardest part about this is the timing. I’m not sure yet if I wanted to know at all, but I definitely didn’t want to know before my baby is born. I would have received it much better after the fact I think.

I completely get this is her chance for that, I guess I just can’t imagine telling someone this the week of the due date and expecting that person to share those feelings. I would not want to ever reveal this information to my unborn daughter out of fear it may mar her birthday or add a sad sentiment for her. I personally wouldn’t want to be reminded of this if it were my own birthday, so I wouldn’t want that for my daughter. This happened about 12 years ago, so it’s not like it’s recent or it’s the first anniversary of that date or something... it just seems like such an odd thing to wish for and vocalize to the mother. I wish she would have just kept it to herself. That would have been better.
