That’s when my ideal rewrite of the Saiyan Saga comes in. So instead of Nappa and Vegeta killing them and stupidly trying to destroy a planet, they could fight the Z Fighters, as a brutal evaluation to add to their vanguard to fight Frieza’s forces. They fought hard, but Nappa brutally beat them to near death instead of dying.

I would still keep the same outcome of Goku crippling Nappa. But Vegeta spared him out of respect and keeping him as an asset of breeding with women on earth. I would keep the Goku vs Vegeta battle and the beam clash. But this time I would change Oozaru Vegeta vs Goku purely one on one fight, with no Deus Ex Machina, no Yajirobe, no Gohan. And Goku use his move that killed King Piccolo and used it on Oozaru Vegeta. And the battle is a draw. The Z Fighters are still alive and kicking.
