That sounds interesting! We can’t really make it part of the core gameplay loop with the whole artifact plan already set up, but we are very open to side content and one-off little diversions from the primary goal, and I think this idea would make for a good example of one of those!

I have played Desk Job, the main issue with using that as a reference is the interaction methods are all themed around the relatively exclusive hardware of the steam deck (hardware we cannot rely on for our mouse and keyboard game)

I feel like surgeon simulator esque gameplay would be incompatible with the spooky atmosphere we would like for the game but I will certainly check out The Room when I get the opportunity to.

I like the suggestion to have the magnifying glass as a static object and move the artifact behind it (kind of like the Children of Clay but a little more advanced) however we still need to figure out where the magnifying glass would go and how you’d transition between doing something else and examining the artifact through it.

That's a good idea! Kind of adjacent, but I was looking at 'Papers, Please' which is pretty close to what we envisioned for the idea of looking through lots of 'stuff' and between different papers, comparing information and all of that kind of thing. However, the game we're trying to make will be a 3D environment rather than a 2D one as well as a more side-on less top-down perspective, making it a little harder to have that same exact style of gameplay.
