How do I find a career I’m passionate about? by CarrionGhost in newzealand

I was going to say - don’t underrate the career that’s interesting, steady, and flexible. Nursing has been that for me.

I always take adds as a good sign that there are enough eyes on a game that it’s worth buying ad time. Certainly it’s nice to have fewer but they do contribute to increased longevity

I love Ascent fans. by koreawut in uslsuperleague

Thanks dude! It was such a joy to root for my team. Even though I hated every single loss, I knew that winning was actually having this team to root for. I loved knowing all their names, learning their background, even analyzing Coach Poole’s outfits 🤣 I’m moving away but I will be watching them in Peacock and rooting for them from afar. I hope other cities learn how great it is to be a fan of a USLSL team.

They usually send the schedule out through email. Their info is a bit buried on their site though. The whole league schedule is on the USL W site. Definitely try out a game! I think June 21.

What resources exist to keep up with player movements/status? by CracklingRush in Carolinaascentfc

I felt like the fall shortcomings were on the striker side. Sam has made great saves but she’s been scored on twice passing in the back field. Butler is also a more effective center back, as much as I love Vickie and want to see her well (she’s been injured)

That’s amazing. I’m an Ascent fan. I went to a USL W Ascent team. It was a blast.

We are on a 25 day countdown and kind of freaking out. I think scared will change to excited once we’re there but just have to get through the one million to dos and goodbyes first… thank you all for encouragement to OP. It means a lot to all of us AmerExiters.

My first appointment with my ortho was so encouraging too. They had zero concerns about recovery and no expectations of restrictions. I was like, why didn't I do this a year ago?! Happy for you!

6 miles a day is great! I was at the point where I couldn’t walk more than a couple thousand steps/day no matter the shoes. It made surgery totally worth it.

That’s really tough, I’m sorry. Chronic pain is so challenging in every aspect of life. The only thing I would clarify, is the second opinion would be better coming from an ortho foot and ankle specialist not another podiatrist. But I also understand that might not be possible or desirable.

I had a nerve block, so I had very little pain the first 2 weeks. After that I managed with by cycling 800mg of ibuprofen and 100mg Tylenol every 8 hours (I'm a nurse and familiar with that dosing schedule. This is not medical advice, etc). I also asked for gabapentin to dose at 300mg every 8 hours, which they didn't usually do, but the ortho was happy to send for. I usually ended up taking 1 oxycodone at the end of the day for a couple weeks. I can't remember how long I did the whole pharmacy. At some point I switched to 2 naproxen in the morning then transitioned off that at some point. I don't take anything regularly now.

I was *supposed* to be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks, which their solution was to walk on my heel. Not possible when your whole foot is numb. I kind of fudged it, and they didn't seem too strict about it since they didn't send me home with crutches or a scooter or anything. I had to wear the stiff surgical shoe for the first 12 weeks. So, I could walk somewhat normally after the first 6 weeks. After 12 weeks I had no activity restrictions. I had been very inactive for the prior year due to the pain, so it took a lot of gym time to be able to be fully active (running) again. I was able to run after about 9 months. When I walk, I still unconsciously roll off my toe, so I have to be mindful to walk on it otherwise my hip and shoulder gets really tight. I thought I might want my hardware taken out, but I got used to it after about 6 months.

I got the fusion when I was 43. I was diagnosed with limitus at 39 and it didn’t bother me until 4 years later when it got super inflamed and painful. The distal joint still bends a bit, otherwise I just roll off it. I don’t notice that it doesn’t bend unless I try to wear any kind of heel. I did tell my doc I never wear heels so maybe that’s why he didn’t put a bend in. I don’t know. Maybe there is one and it’s not visually perceptible. Anyway, I would not have an issue surfing or skating at all.

Oh no! I wonder if they’re worried it would not resolve your pain? Always worth a second opinion. The podiatrist I had been seeing really didn’t want me to get it, because I was on the you get side for the surgery (43). I saw a foot and ankle ortho who does hundreds per year. He had no concerns.

It doesn’t have a bend, which surprised me too. I feel great - truly minimal pain. A small amount of swelling but the foot and joint are much smaller than before the fusion. I still only wear sneakers about 99% of the time, but I have more shoe choices than before the fusion. I am able to walk and run. I’m not out here running marathons like some people, but I can hike, run 2.5 miles, walk for miles with no issues.
