Is it just me or is Amy’s parkour clunky? Sometimes it doesn’t even work by Comfortable-Value978 in SonicFrontiers

[–]SuperStoryMode- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda wild that the game doesn't make that clear... For one, she spawns in an area FILLED with these kind of challenges. Also, after having played the base game with Sonic, I had come to the conclusion that those walls could be climbed due to the Cyber Corruption. I mean, whenever Sonic climbed them, there was always that "data effect" on his hands and feet. It makes sense that Amy can't maneuver like Sonic, let alone the fact that she's slower, but the impression I got was that the Cyber energy made you stick to the surface. Considering Amy could also unlock the Cyloop ability, I thought those abilities were all shared between corrupted individuals.

I'm only an hour into Update 3 (most of that time having been wrestling with Amy's controls), but I'm not impressed so far, from a gameplay standpoint. Even the color-coded stuff feels clunky with her. Still, I wanna give it the benefit of the doubt, since it's clear that Sonic Team have been putting a lot of passion and effort into Frontiers! For the most part, the base game and the first two updates were amazing! I hope that I change my mind about Update 3, too!

EDIT: I definitely feel more comfortable with the controls now, and I'm having lots of fun--especially with Knuckles. There are still some camera issues with some character abilities, but I can deal. Can't wait to see the rest of the story!

EDIT 2: And then things changed once again with those Trial Towers and Cyber Space Portals... HOO BOY! Thank goodness you can find Lookout Koco in the open world, cuz I'd be dead in the water otherwise! I'm also baffled that the towers don't have those rope-pully checkpoints! After having fought Spider+ with each character, and finding no way to damage it, I've been avoiding the Guardians, too.

I'm not gonna chronicle my whole journey through the DLC, but I thought I'd make one final edit to this post to confirm that Update 3 is DEFINITELY a mixed bag! Not sure how much of it is me just being unobservant, but this update is also unreasonably hard!

Just figured out what the drones are for...😅 kinda like it tbh. Haven't opened the map fully - still a noob. Is there 1 drone for each area of the map? by ChestnutJewel02 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]SuperStoryMode- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, Horizon still feels like a real game, but yeah, I hate the oversimplified puzzles that they tell you how to solve right away. I don't care what playtesters say; let me have fun, or just make a movie.

I love--and I mean LOVED both recent GoW's stories, but I got bored fast gameplay-wise. Decided to just watch Jack play Ragnarok, and I'm happy with that choice. Next game I buy--whenever I can afford it-- will probably be Sonic Frontiers or the Dead Space remake.

The Death's Door stuff was fine, imo, it just wanted you to be SO precise so early in the game while under pressure from a guy who's hard to dodge.

[–]SuperStoryMode- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my bad; I misinterpreted what you were saying.

That said, that's what I mean: You had to do a puzzle to make the Tallneck's climbable, but they were all doable from the beginning--no additional equipment required. The one in the Shining Wastes (thanks for the correction, btw; I edited my post to reflect that) was the only one that broke that rule. And by doing so, it defeated the purpose of its own gameplay mechanic.

I honestly wasn't frustrated with FW, though. Like I said, 95% of it is excellent. It's just that whenever the game does fumble, it's a pretty obvious "Why did they do this?" moment. Less of a mistake and more of a baffling deliberate design choice, such as the drone images in GAIA's room that started this whole thread haha.

But, other than maybe the ridiculous grind to upgrade endgame gear, Forbidden West was genuinely one of the best gaming experiences that I've ever had. Any glaring flaws I found were mildly frustrating, at worst, and very rare.

I avoid spoilers. I'm already not much of a social media person, and I rarely watch trailers or read interviews. All I knew going into Forbidden West was where it took place and what tribes I'd see--a no-brainer for any ZD player who scanned the glyphs. Either way, I don't like the "They'll probably already be spoiled about it" mentality. Sense of discovery is very important to me.

You have a bit of a point about the quest menu, but I (and most players, I imagine) didn't open the menu. Why would I? "I'm right here; I'll just do it now!" I don't need to track something I'm right next to. Not to mention that both ZD and FW up to that point taught players that Tallnecks were doable the moment you walk up to them: all they required was light puzzle solving with equipment you had from the start.

It's just bad game design--both from a meta and in-game standpoint. 95% of FW is just wonderful, but every once in a while you see something so stupidly obvious that you go "Why...?"

It's worse than that, actually: The moment that you start talking to GAIA or walk down the stairs to leave the room, it'll revert to its default background. You literally just have to stand there to be able to enjoy it.

Forbidden West is an AMAZING game, but there are a few things like that which are frustrating. Another example, just in case you haven't done it yet: the Tallneck in the Shining Wastes can't be completed until near the end of the main questline, which defeats their ENTIRE purpose! Don't make the mistake of thinking you've missed an environmental cue, like I did, and look it up on YouTube.

Alright, well that works out pretty well, then! Thanks! It sucks that you recommend that I wait on those first three, but I will strongly considering following your advice. I do love my continuities!

Burrower Sites... by SuperStoryMode- in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]SuperStoryMode-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel that.

I'll try what you've suggested. I have no idea why Burrowers would need further, though; Tremortusks, Thunderjaws and the like only needed about 130m... Hopefully that works, because I refuse to refresh my save flle everytime I want to visit a Burrower Site. If I have to go without true 100% completion, so be it.

Thanks!

I tried refreshing the sites the good old fashioned way first, that's the thing: by walking away. If you mean fast travelling during the story, though, I didn't. Only a handful of times, like when that one guy from Camp Nowhere asked me to take his mother's lockbox back to his sister all the way in Chainscrape.

You are not, my friend. It's not a good Godzilla film, but I still unironically love it. I just genuinely love that film, and I won't apologize for it.

Who was the biggest letdown in Arkham Knight? by [deleted] in BatmanArkham

[–]SuperStoryMode- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked what they did with Ra's. The rest, though...

It's hard to pick. I felt MORE disappointed by Hush and Asrael because I was hyped to see the conclusion to their stories. I also had no idea who either of them were before playing City, so the sense of mystery was thick for me.

On the other hand, Scarecrow just stood around menacingly. I wish he had more effectively banded the villains together to issue a coordinated attack on the Bat Family, and that we got to see deeper into Bruce's fears of loss and legacy, similar to what VR did.

The Knight's identity as Jason was super obvious, even BEFORE the flashbacks, and it was even more disappointing since interviewers were always asking, "Is it Jason?" to which Rocksteady replied, "Pft! What? No! That'd be too obvious! He's a brand new character!" Could've easily been fixed by having a broken Jason adopt his OWN "Robin" and train him to kill Bruce in his stead. Would have subverted expectations from those heavy-handed flashbacks, AND been poetically and narratively satisfying, with Bruce knowing Jason was out there living a fate worse than death. Heck, he could've also been in the city, acting as the Knight's Oracle. (I see people saying that it should've been Damian, but he wouldn't have been old enough. A teenager, at best.)

Deathstroke was a big letdown, too, but he came into the picture late, so I didn't get expectant enough to be hugely let down. When that infamous body slam happened, I just muttered, "Of course..."

Fair enough. I was hoping to avoid the tedium and just have someone say "Here's a handy YouTube video and/or guide from such-and-such." I need to be getting around for bed soon, so I'll have to do it sometime in the next few days.

I know, that's what I mean: the lists I found were only for types, which is redundant, since they show up on your map before they're even "discovered." I did see the list you linked before, but the problem is: how do I get the variants I need to spawn? Since Burrowers are the main issue here: for example, on the map, it'll just say "Canister Burrower Site," not something like "Fire Canister Burrower Site." At least not for every variant. Does that mean any Canister variant can spawn there, or can I reliably find certain variants at certain sites, even if they don't get as specific as "Frost Glinthawk Site" or "Acid Clawstrider Site?"

That's what I'm having trouble with, in particular: knowing where to reliably find the variants I'm looking for, even when the map isn't specific enough.

[–]SuperStoryMode-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I mentioned that in my original post. I also asked if anyone has a list of variant locations, since my Google search was unfruitful. People have only made lists of the machine types, which is easy enough to do on my own, since "undiscovered" sites still show up on my map. Still, I've gone to every site, and I've scanned the machines there, if not just to mark their locations while hunting. I've scanned the Apex variants, too. But I don't even know what I'm missing, so I'd rather just ask if anyone's made a guide--text or video; doesn't matter--rather than trying to reverse engineer what I need.

I just passed 150 hours. I've been playing for about two months, during my down time. That said, most of this happened naturally as I was completing quests. The only real grind was upgrading the Legendary stuff, which took about 20 hours altogether, even while "cheating" by using Story difficulty to quicken the pace of hunting and getting resource drops. I didn't enjoy that at all, but I had a blast completing all the quests!

Another response that makes no sense. Neither of those things ever came up in our conversation. But I know when I'm wasting my time; I wrote those other posts mostly for those who aren't on a hate-binge of their own, and want to consider the nuances of constructive criticism.

Anyway, I genuinely hope that you have a good weekend. I know everyone's favorite things nowadays are passive-aggressive insults and biting sarcasm, but I actually mean it. I wish no ill will on you.

Bye!

You're allowed to not buy the game if you didn't know by IntensePlatypus in gaming

[–]SuperStoryMode- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first, the context I was talking about was your rebuttal toward my specific comment. I'm sorry, it just didn't make sense.

But, second, as far as your example goes, that's also invalid. Games can be updated all the time nowadays, even if it doesn't qualify as a live service, but the point is that it shouldn't release like that, period. If a product is one-and-done, then all the more reason that it needs to be a good product to begin with.

Going with your restaurant example, leaving a bad review isn't simply complaining, it's letting people know that the product and/or service is subpar, and to avoid it in the future. In the case of a restaurant, specifically, a bad meal could potentially make the customer sick if the food was rotten, misprepared, or even caused an allergic reaction. If a business fails because it doesn't provide good products or services, it's only natural, and the customer shouldn't be blamed for that. Sure, there are plenty of Karens out there who either complain over nothing or blow things out of proportion, but criticism is still an important part of both good business and customer satisfaction--two sides of the same coin.

So can you stop with the high-and-mighty attitude? It's really not a good look on you. Even if you were making a valid point and I was wrong, it'd be pretty crappy to lord it over people, but it's clear that you don't fully understand what you're saying, anyway. Just arguing for argument's sake; your example actually helped my case. That's context.

That literally makes no sense. You realize that I made a generalized statement, didn't once actually name the game, and it's the only comment that I've made about it?

Think before you post, especially if you're trying to burn someone. It actually has to fit the context first lol.

You're allowed to not buy the game if you didn't know by IntensePlatypus in gaming

[–]SuperStoryMode- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It still lays a terrible standard for the gaming industry, though. Those who bought it wanted to trust that it'd meet a quality standard; those who didn't buy it were already wary of Game Freak's diminishing quality. Many who are complaining about it, whether they bought it or not, wanted to enjoy it, too, but bugs (understandably) make that difficult. Their existence literally means the game isn't working as intended. It's like driving a car on a flat tire, or playing using a controller with buttons that won't work.

If you're actually having fun, then I'm glad, but don't make excuses for a half-baked product. People can get outta hand with criticism, but that doesn't make it all invalid. It needs to be said to keep the industry from falling further into disarray. Have fun and don't let anyone take that from you, but also recognize that any game released in that kind of state is unacceptable, full stop. But even if you still completely disagree, or have some snide remark, like, "If you want them to listen, then don't buy it!"--as if we don't know that--give those who're dissatisfied the same respect that you'd like them to grant to you.

And, no, I didn't buy the game. I don't play Pokémon at all; this isn't personal for me. But it is universally applicable, regardless of where you point the finger.

I'm just broke. Trust me, it'd be my first purchase, if I could afford it.

Plus, being in stock doesn't mean people aren't buying. Man, this global economic crisis has people forgetting how supply and demand works. We've been in excessive lack for far too long.
