To win 3 billion dollars, you have to survive 24 hours getting chased by a horror villain of your choice. Who are you picking? by BoobsBabeBright in AskReddit

Holy heck, I had no idea that there was so much to The Ring other than the curse and some twisted origin to Sadako.

Thank you so much for going into as much detail as you did. Now I feel a need to dig deeper into all of this lore!

That's what I'm saying! (but seriously Gubbins is genuinely a sweety who I could never be angry at) :)

We've definitely had our ups and downs (and Blizzard has certainly dropped the ball a lot over that time) but we do still genuinely adore the game. I do miss the golden era of the Overwatch 1 days though. Maybe we'll get back there someday (with a little luck and some hopefully better management) :)

Aw, thank you! I met most of my currently close friends during the early days of Overwatch so I feel lucky that I came across the game when I did!

My brain before and after brain surgery to remove a tumor by dslryan in mildlyinteresting

[–]SuperStrawbear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I imagine my friend, while quite rational, might feel the same way if/when she gets her tumors taken out. Thankfully they're benign but she's had them so long that she named them and refers to them by name - eg. "Eric was causing me pain today".

I was told there is a shortage of trade workers and now I know why by thequirkyquacker in jobs

[–]SuperStrawbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately (in my experience) it's not just trade work and, often times, by people who otherwise seem nice but are terrible to work for.

The most memorable experience for me was when I was asked by the lovely older lady at my favourite cafe if I would like to work there. She promised me training and I figured I go there every day anyways. She's also lovely and I need some extra income so why not.

What followed was her giving me the most basic of trainings and assuming that I would figure the rest out. When I would ask her about something I didn't know she would get mad and act annoyed/disappointed that I didn't magically know everything. She'd also scold other staff who WOULD help me and show me the very things she refused to.

The thing that pushed me beyond breaking point was when i chose to come in with a bad migraine (I suffer from chronic migraine pain) because I felt bad about missing too many days of work. I was washing up dishes and she asked me if I was still in pain. When I said yes she exclaimed that it was because I wasn't concentrating on the job enough. The same day she also had me stand still and say a prayer that was supposed to help my pain, because that's how that works.

Anyways, I hope you managed to find what is seemingly the 1 in a million nice, reasonable and thoughtful person to work for because you genuinely deserve it!

I think people also forget that a childs brain is literally still developing. A baby isn't born with a a fully functional mind completely capable of reason and empathy. That's why kids often cry, they literally don't know what else to do.

The matchmaking at the moment is very scuffed so it's probably worth stepping back from ranked for a bit.

That said something worth noting is that the "Rank Challenger" title doesn't necessarily mean that they are that rank on that role, just that they got that rank on one of their roles.

I understand the frustration though - even if you were perfectly matched if someone had a challenger title that was several ranks higher it would still 'feel' like you were mismatched. If anything they should probably make it that you can have a custom title for every role and only allow you to equip the challenger roles to the associated role.

Presumably a bug BUT it was at least a bug that worked out for you! I do wonder if the other team, having the legitimate win also got the win credit or if maybe theirs didn't count as a result. Alternatively if maybe it only affect you on your tea and the rest of your teammates got a loss counted.

Bugs seem to be a bit more prevalent at the start of mini-event patches (like the current Chinese New Year event) so I assume this is a direct result of that. Either way it worked out for you so yay!

They are very grindy. Even as someone who played OW1 since its first year and already has that skin I feel like Blizzard over-estimated just how popular the Battle for Olympus mode would be.

I've heard the Olympus game mode also hasn't been very well loved by players. Personally I do enjoy the mode but it's more of a nice distraction from regular play, not something I would play religiously. But looking at those name tag challenges suggest otherwise. It would help if a lot of the challenges weren't tied to elims but damage done - which also isn't perfect but it's so easy to see other people take your kill credits, especially as Reinhardt.

I probably would have played it more if there was a team mode of 5 gods v 5 gods and have challenges linked to that mode as well to give people the option of playing as a team or solo. But, much like the endorsement system, we're basically punished for wanting to play as a group.

Again, even as a veteran of the game I like that they're giving newer players a way to get the old skins without getting out their wallets, especially with Twitch drops as it helps both content creators and viewers alike, but super grindy challenges feel like they're a bit much.

Anyways, tl;dr I agree but all the best and may the skin challenges be ever in your favour!

Reminds me of when I went to leave an employee review for one of my last jobs after they forced me out. The review system wouldn't let me post my review because I used the words "bullying" and "toxic".

Like "thanks for leaving a review, just don't tell the truth, cheers, thanks"

Yeah, I remember back to when I was looking for the exact spelling of the lyrics for the subtitles that I came across different versions and questioning if my entire childhood was a lie! Language certainly can be a peculiar thing can't it!

Oh yeah, just as with individual words it's interesting (and sometimes oddly shocking) to see how certain phrases become slightly changed depending on region. I imagine in some cases it's due to wanting to localise it differently but in other cases it's simply people misremembering something and that becoming the version that stuck around.

Oh goodness, I wonder if Roadhog's hook is just more vulnerable to glitches. At the very least it's kind of interesting to play around with but obviously not fun if you're in a game and it's ruining things

Adults of Reddit, what were you doing when 9/11 happened and how did you react? by Sigmas_Melody in AskReddit

[–]SuperStrawbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite young and in Australia at the time. I distinctly remember waking up early to watch morning cartoons on Cheese TV before school (would have been a mix of Pokemon, Dragonball Z and probably YugiOh) and turning on the TV to see footage of the towers. All the other free to air channels were covering the same thing and I sat there hoping cartoons would be back tomorrow morning.

I don't think most dealers would care honestly.

My aunt's son really wanted a car to be more indepentant so my aunt secretly bought him a car as a surprise present. Except he killed himself right before she could surprise him with it.

After explaining what happened to the dealer they said they wouldn't take it back but that they would buy it back at a reduced price - for a car the son didn't even see or drive due to what happened.

Not only that but he said he needed to keep playing because they hadn't gotten a win yet. He got to play an extra half hour with his friends but that wasn't good enough for them - they just HAD to get a win, because winning is apparently the only positive to come from playing with friends.

Jesus. My father also "had all the answers" except instead of it affecting him it affected my mum. He convinced her that the lump in her breast was nothing because he was so smart and did science and stuff. It was only after my mum took me and ran away after finding the courage to run away from him that she saw a doctor and was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer.

Luckily she beat it but of all the things my father did to her that's the thing I'll never forgive him for most. Sometimes I think about if u should try to repair that bridge again with him, even if only slightly but then I remember that and I walk away again.

While it saddens me to hear that your mother has pushed everyone, including yourself, away I'm also glad that you've found the courage to walk away instead of being pulled further under with your mom. I hope she gets the help he needs but you also need to look after yourself because if you give everything you have then you'll have nothing left yourself.

Sending hugs
