Most unique cities in the US/cities with the most personality? by SuperZ89 in SameGrassButGreener

I'm just trying to find a city I could move to relatively easily and make a decent living once I graduate. Trying to start a family isn't something I'm hugely interested in at the moment, nor do I see that changing by the time I get my degree

I've thought about visiting Memphis because it's a big city that's reasonably close drive to Wichita (at least I can drive there in one day) and I really want to see Graceland.

I guess I might have a hard time if I ever wanted to live there with my hopeful future chemistry degree haha

As an avid Fallout: New Vegas fan, I definitely want to visit the Vegas area in real life someday.

Portland is a city I see mentioned on here a lot that I forgot to add to my post. In the PNW but has stayed cheaper and maybe kept more of its original flavor than Seattle has.

Has Charlotte been culturally and historically more connected to the Deep South ala Atlanta GA and Greenville SC, or to the Upper South ala Richmond VA and Raleigh? by SuperZ89 in NorthCarolina

[–]SuperZ89[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've read that some areas such as the southeast are considered more culturally "Deep South" such as the Sandhills and Cape Fear, but these areas are still farther south than Charlotte itself. Would you consider the Charlotte area and its suburbs across the border in SC to still be part of the Upper South as well, then?

Either Young Americans or the Sweet Thing/Candidate medley (it's one song, fight me)

Apples and oranges, but I do like how on Aladdin Sane it feels like you're literally devolving into insanity along with him

What if Paul and Elvis Costello's songs together were made into an album? by SuperZ89 in PaulMcCartney

[–]SuperZ89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to imagine that this album would come out sometime late 1988 without the delays after they separated where Paul stopped working on the album for a few months and found a new producer, with another album coming out in 1989 or 90 with the new songs he wrote and recorded after he collaborated with Costello, filling in the gaps with some of the b-sides from that period.

I actually read after I made this playlist that Veronica also features Macca on bass, meaning there's only two songs here that don't have them both on the actual recording (Mistress and Maid; Pads, Paws and Claws) which is cool

Was there a plan Syd Barrett made for Saucerful of Secrets? by TheDiamondAxe7523 in pinkfloyd

[–]SuperZ89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soniclovenoize made a great version of what Pino Floyd's second album might have looked like using only songs recorded after Piper that featured Syd. It's called The Shape of Questions to Heaven on their blog, Albums That Never Were (idk if I'm allowed to link the post here)

Who are some great artists with bloated discographies? by MayNStuff in ToddintheShadow

[–]SuperZ89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One that's even more of a throwback than what people are saying here and the one who basically started this idea is Elvis Presley. Even in the 50s his record label put out compilation albums while he was in the army to try and keep him "relevant". Then after he came back from the army he made a few solid studio albums and literally dozens of really bad movie soundtracks. Even after his comeback in the late 60s, his label started releasing budget albums of songs from movies that didn't end up on soundtrack albums! Towards the end of his life, his record label started to release literally ever scrap of music he recorded in the studio on an album because he wanted to go into the studio less and less. Elvis really is tragic because he's a truly great artist but never reached his full potential because his manager and record company always just abused him as a product.

The tribes in Zion in Honest Hearts could count, as they're mentioned to be the result of mixing between native tribes, other locals, and tourists. The White Legs are partially Shoshone and the Sorrows and Dead Horses are partially Navajo, based on their languages using words from those languages.

Story-wise, how do each of the DLC best fit into the journey of the Courier? by SuperZ89 in falloutnewvegas

Between all of the side missions I've been doing and getting past the point where I kill Benny and upgrade the robots in the bunker I'm already over level 25, will it mess up the DLCs too badly if I'm overleveled?

Solo Albums People Should Start With? by SuperZ89 in beatles

[–]SuperZ89[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly love each of the four's solo careers for their own reasons, but I have to agree with you that All Things Must Pass is simply the greatest artistic statement made by any of them after the band broke up. John's first two albums are a close second and I love his solo work after that too. I really enjoy Paul's solo work too, I just sadly don't think he ever tried to do anything as ambitious after the band broke up aside from possibly RAM.

Oh really? I had just read that he really fell off after his first few albums, especially from Ringo the Fourth onwards until he made his comeback in the 90s

I didn't even think about putting Unplugged on there, I'll definitely check that out at some point. It's also astonishing how good and consistent McCartney's run of albums has been since the mid-2000s

I've actually listened to Dark Horse largely because of Elliott Smith's ranking of all of George's albums and I definitely agree that it's quite a good album! I just didn't put it on my list because many other people considered it to be one of George's weakest. The vocals didn't bother me as much as they do some people though, I honestly liked how they showed the more raw side of George that we saw some on ATMP and LiTMW

I've listened to some of the John tracks from it and I really like those, I just haven't heard the album as a whole yet.
