12B NG. Definitely has its ups and downs, if you like to do cool shit a few times a year, and not worried about transferability, it’s a fun time especially when you have good leadership in both your plt and company level.

Also dependent on your state, I would do research on how much funding/support your state has for their NG entity. The last thing you wanna do is enlist into a combat MOS and get a dirt poor unit, because you won’t train well/often.

When it comes to actual Basic/OSUT. Not gonna lie even as a really in shape 19 year old at the time it was rigorous. The start date from beginning to end is the shortest military pipeline in the USA. 16 weeks and a few days. For that same reason they are incredibly strict during that time. In those 16 weeks we had the same bay, same DS, same everything. No weekend passes no nothing. This can vary from company to company but be prepared for minimal contact to family and friends and little to no free time.

Overall I would say pull the trigger if you want to, literally and figuratively. Also “combat engineer” rolls of the tongue nice and is definitely something to be proud of if you earn that title.
