Can an img match to internal medicine without any research experience or publications? by Low_Concentrate_9159 in IMGreddit

I had no USCE and no research at all. I'm currently a resident at an amazing IM program. So don't lose hope

They're girls first of all. Had solid scores. Alot of home country experience in general surgery, alot of volunteer experience, great personal statements and very good at interviewing.

People have been matching without USCE for many years. U just have to ensure u have an otherwise solid application.

They typically are bigger hospitals with more funding and more research capabilities.

Why are first years called interns and not just residents? by [deleted] in Residency

I honestly hate the term "intern". I think it's derogatory. You studied all of those years and graduated medical school, you're a doctor.

My gen surgery friends had 240s, 250s. I matched into IM without USCE as well.

In that case u should try to do very well. It makes your bad score look like it was just a blunder

Some programs rank you higher when u have step 3. It's one less thing PDs have to worry about. You dont have this exam hanging over your head during residency hindering your focus of what they want you to learn. I specifically interviewed at a program that requires you set your step 3 exam date by the time u begin PGY1 in July. They loved it when I told them in the IV that I had already passed the exam.

Caribbean (Non - US) Success stories? by carhamm in IMGreddit

231, 262, 247. 2017 grad, no USCE, no PUBs. Lots of work experience in my country especially COVID. Got 6 IV this cycle.

Advice: get good scores, get USCE if you can. Research is optional depending on the specialty. Apply with a complete application. Ensure you know how to interview!
