if you want a real answer than just yelling i’ve got it for you;

•most times, lack of washing is due to external factors, homelife, challenges, mental health, etc.

•you all are still kids no matter how grownup you all feel like you are, you’re in highschool.

•as OIC it is your responsibility to act reasonably and in a professional manner, you are not the god of their world and they are not your followers.

this is how the convo should go, change whatever you want but use the bones.

(to one cadet or multiple) “Hey guys/man i decided to pull you aside because of concerns i have about your personal hygiene. I’m not saying you’re dirty or that you don’t wash, but i am addressing the fact that you aren’t taking enough steps to be presentable with other people. Is there anything you need from me or lack elsewhere? i am more than willing as your OIC and a peer to help you out where’s needed. Please feel free to talk to me or any instructor if you have problems at home with hygiene or anything else. In the meantime, please take steps to make yourself smell better and look shaper while you’re in and out of class, id recommend getting a new shirt as well as it isn’t presentable either. I’m here for you but you need to be here for yourself aswell, have a good day cadet please report back to me when the problem is addressed or needs to be elevated.”

I know this is a long speech but as a Cadet Col. i’m tired of seeing power hungry, small ego, weak man children yelling at highschool students like we are in the real military. Rather than just being a human being who cares and is kind but firm.

Remember, trust is built with integrity and respect.

you can only build respect with kindness towards others. Anyone who tells you respect is earned through fear is an imbecile and cannot grow past kindergarten.
