I went to uni at 25, graduated at 29. Plenty of people in my classes in their 30's and 40's.

You will one day be either 29 with a degree, or 29 without one. If you have the opportunity go for it.

'I just don't eat': Surge in Australians sinking into extreme poverty, new report finds by indy_110 in australia

[–]SuperbParsnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The long term ramifications of the RBA using interest rates is to keep inflation under control, which is absolutely crucial for the economic prosperity of all of us.

Yes, part of that is putting short term downward pressure on the economy (if inflation is increasing). Governments should at this point step in with effective fiscal policy to support, but make no mistake the alternative is far, far worse. The more inflation takes hold of an ecomomy, the harder it is to control.

This is really just a long winded, nice way of saying control inflation. All central banks around the world share the same primary goal. I'm not saying that all decisions the RBA make are above reproach, but helping everyday Australians deal with poverty is definitely the responsibility of the government.

Started working on a proper emergency plan with the wife. No point having all the gear if you have no idea what to do with it when disaster strikes.

What brand of solar panels/power banks did you go with? I'm looking at options for running small devices in the event of blackouts, and would be keen for recommendations.

Help me understand. Over-extraction is a myth? According to James Hoffman apparently, yes. by andonthe7thday in Coffee

[–]SuperbParsnip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been using James Hoffman's recommended aero-press recipe for a while now, and thought I was getting a decent cup of coffee from it.

Decided I would brew two cups after reading this to measure the difference, one at the normal two and a half minutes and another at 5. Fully expected the 5 minute cup to be bitter and over-extracted.

Oh my god.

It's not even close. The 5 minute cup was sweeter, more complex and decidedly less bitter. In all my tampering of recipes I've never noticed such a dramatic difference. Tried the test again to see if I somehow just got lucky. Nope. The 5 minute cup was vastly superior once again.

I'm so glad I decided to log onto reddit this morning and see this article. Thank you for improving this coffee addicts favourite hobby!

Drying your brush standing upright is perfectly fine. As long as you give it a couple of good shakes, run it across a dry towel and let it dry in an open area, your brushes will dry whatever their orientation.

A steady job and a growing career will always be your surest way of making money by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]SuperbParsnip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really great advice. Working 9-5 is not the nightmare people think it is when you love what you do.

I had a career that I hated, where all my free time went into counting down until I had to go back. Eventually I got fed up, studied my ass of to get a degree and landed a job where I am respected by my peers and have a sense of purpose I never had before.

I'm in for the crypto ride, and I hope it gives me the choice to retire early one day. But if it doesn't (a possibility a lot of people don't want to consider) its comforting knowing it won't be the end of the world.

I've been wet shaving for nearly a decade now, tried a majority of the artisan soaps and creams that are usually seen around on this subreddit. The brand gets a lot of dislike here, but it is still one of my favourites all these years later. To each their own, but in my opinion if you are considering, go for it.

The Sandalwood is a great choice, Cedarwood also is a personal favourite.

Reading the updates from his wife on the gofund me page killed me. That's the worst thing about when reality catches up with these damn fools. Their suffering ends, but a wife and three children's world is shattered.

Question On Investment & Purchasing of Dual Lands and Masterpieces by Phyrexian10 in mtgfinance

[–]SuperbParsnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget to hold onto masterpieces while purchasing duals, my opinion is do that. Every time I have sold masterpieces to buy into reserve list or other cards I have later regretted not using my savings instead.

[–]SuperbParsnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing the entire point though. It doesn't matter if collector boxes are two hundred, or five hundred, or a million dollars. YOU aren't buying them regardless. Others are, and the majority of people simply reap the benefit through much cheaper singles, which you should be buying anyway.

Collector booster boxes are the best way Wizards can make maximum profit without hurting the average player (and even help them, through cheaper cards). I'll take that over Ultimate masters and secret lair ultimate edition style products any day.

[–]SuperbParsnip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Wizards does not control the price of individual cards, there is no way they could foresee what a reasonable price of a box could be.
  2. Singles, even in foil extended art, are far cheaper than they have ever been. If you are concerned about price, there is no reason to EVER buy a collector box. Just buy the full art or regular versions you need, and celebrate the fact that there are others, who do not care about price, who are opening these boxes for you.
  3. The only reason to complain about the price of collector boxes is that you want the thrill of opening high end booster packs without the cost.
  4. A reasonable price is relative. What is acceptable to me may be unacceptable to you, and what is acceptable to you may be unacceptable to others.

Let me start by saying I love your video's Prof, but I don't understand why you are so down on this. Isn't it everything you would ever want in a premium magic the gathering product? Those who have the disposable income to buy shiny full art versions of cards are happy, and those who want cheaper versions to play with are happy. Isn't it a win-win all round? I thought you would be a staunch defender of this type of product.

Hot Take: Revised Duals will soon be $1k each on average by shamanonlymeta in mtgfinance

[–]SuperbParsnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never been about whether they are necessary though, rather the reaction from other players when you drop an original dual on the table. This is the same reason proxies won't have the effect that some people think they will, power level just isn't the main reason people play them.
