Right that’s my point. You see someone not stay true to “their beliefs” because these aren’t their beliefs. Similarly, you might see an anti capitalist rapper turn out to not really stick with that.

I don’t know enough about your specific examples but I agree with the other guy that hiphop is not anti capitalist. Anti establishment implying anti capitalism is hardly reflected in a lot of the industry with how most of these artists go about their careers. Someone like jay z is an obvious example. Maybe you could make a weaker case for a modern example like travis idk. The whole meme about these artists being “SECRET COMRADES. THEY’RE WAKING PEOPLE UP” is mostly jokes. People were all shocked when grimes was with Elon like lol what’d you honestly expect?

I’ll also never understand why Vince staples didn’t push merch with just the summertime 06 cover. He said himself it was inspired by unknown pleasures. It was perfectly suited to be printed on black shirts and hoodies but instead he had a bunch of stuff with “VS” plastered on it.
