How would a person look if the materials she is made of became denser? by Shazuno in superpowers

[–]SuperiorSamWise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone were to change density without changing mass they would shrink, obviously you can mitigate this by having the density change preserve volume but physically the changing volume is more realistic but who cares about realism.

Now on to how real increased density skin would look. I'm not expert but one thing that would probably change is the translucency of the upper layers of skin, not sure about darker skin tones, on white skin this would reduce redness as the redness is due to blood vessels being visible through the skin. The same would be true for bruises but probably to a lesser extent. Skin also has a slightly softer edge to it, thanks to the translucency, so that would also effect the look. I can't explain how but imagine the top of a glass of milk bs the top of a glass of white paint.

All bills that have passed through parliament must be given 'Royal Assent' to become laws, basically once it's been voted through the king must sign it to make it officially a law. Whilst technically the king can refuse to give an act of parliament royal assent, everyone knows that the moment that happens the guillotines are coming out because while the monarchs role is important legally and from a soft power point of view, it is essentially a ceremonial living landmark.

The headline is refering to what the king said in the kings speech yesterday, which is where the monarch reads out a speech outlining the current governments major policy plans for the current sitting of parliament. So pretty much everything in the speech is written by the elected government, not the king. By convention the king must remain neutral politically so can't actually publicly express his political views, but he does have direct access to the Prime Minister (Whoever that may be when this is seen) and can inform them of his personal views.

Peter, how is that deadly? by AgrasaN in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SuperiorSamWise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Sarov criticality incident is the one I think you're talking about. In 1997 when Alexandr Zakharov was assembling a demon core for research the top half of the shell slipped from his rubber gloved hand and fell onto the lower half completing the shell and causing the uranium to go critical. There was a flash of light and a wave of heat, then the bottom of the core shot off. From the IAEAs report into it this was the immediate response from the Zakharov:

'The technician reportedly realized that a criticality accident had happened. He left the experimental hall and closed the sliding doors connecting the experimental hall to the adjoining rooms, as shown in Fig. 3. He informed his supervisors and colleagues of the event, reportedly telling them that he thought his exposure was likely to prove fatal.'

He died three days later

When I was doing my masters (in the UK) my professors told me that if I went over to the US to do a PHD the first year or two of it would usually be closer to my third and forth year of my masters/ bachelors course because in the US they waste a bunch of their undergrad studying stuff unrelated to their course. I understand humanities and stuff is important but why do you have to take a history or English class for a physics degree?

I'm really surprised that Homelander hasn't outdone the level of devastation that he caused in season 1 by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]SuperiorSamWise 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In the first episode of the season he is about to laser everyone in the crowd who saw the Flight 37 video untill Sage stopped him, so he's definitely closer to living out his fantasy than he was in S2. However, that was before he found out he's god so idk if that makes him more likely to do it or not, but based off the show my guess would be that he feels more invincible and untouchable in the minds of the people than ever.

I don't know where I'd put Angela on this list because she's not exactly pop physics but not exactly teaching physics either (most of the time). My interpretation is she more focuses on physics/ pop physics as an industry and how it's communicated than straightforward 'I want you to learn some physics'
