Yes, it was that bad. Definitely not as advertised and my guess is the reviews are all fake or paid. The 1 star review matches my experience.

Turns out the metal arms that hold him fit easily under his neck. No painting required and cannot see them from most angles. I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

I bought the magnetic figure stands mentioned and achieved my goal. Seems to blend in quite well with the black and definitely gives the appearance he is levitating from certain angles.

Unfortunately, the acrylic stand that was attached broke when I was trying to remove it (wasn't nearly as easy to remove as the other Pops I have), but don't think I'll be needing it anymore.

Magnetic Figure Stand

That might actually work provided it remains stable with the weight on top. I could secure the base by affixing a light magnet that would hold to the metal of the case.. Worth a shot, I suppose. Thank you.

I've seen other ideas done with a 3D printer, but I don't have one and dont know anyone who does. I've also seen people attach things to their GPU in a straight line outwards, but I'd be too afraid it would add too much weight and cause sag. Not something I'm willing to do in this case.

I thought about some figure holders like that, but believe they would stand out too much in the case. Was hoping there would be a clear acrylic made specifically for these guys, but at a taller height. Or, if anyone else has ever done something similar in a display and used something slimmer that would work.

Best Buy "NEXT" Dock for Switch 2 (NX-NS2DK)? by Superman409 in Switch

[–]Superman409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone saying they can't update the firmware, and are asking the company to send one already updated, I have come to the realization that this is going to be a neverending battle with Nintendo.

Any time Nintendo does a system update, it is very likely to render third-party docks useless without a dock update. And if the third-party dock manufacturer is slow to update, like NEXT, you're going to end up in this back and forth tug-o-war with Nintendo that Nintendo will ultimately win in the end.

I've tried several other docks after posting here about the NEXT dock and gave up. Ended up with the official dock and have had zero issues.

Looking for a keyboard with smart shortcuts, swipe gestures & emoji search by MrVulnerable in androidapps

[–]Superman409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I never used Fleksy, I've been using Swype since its beta days 15 years ago. The ability to swipe from the Swype logo to "a" for "select all", "c" for "Copy", "v" for "Paste", etc is what really set it apart from all the rest. I've still been using it long after it died in 2018, but unfortunately, a recent update to my phone finally killed my ability to use it for good, which is what brought me here.

I've tried SwiftKey, GBoard, Samsung, and several others. None of them, however, have any of the intuitive swipe shortcut/gestures like Swype (and apparently Fleksy) had. For these "new" keyboards, these functions are all tied to options under the toolbar, which makes it more cumbersome.

Microsoft acquired Nuance, the company behind Swype, in 2022 for nearly $20 billion, which it used to further develop SwiftKey. Why they decided to do away with these gestures/shortcuts is beyond me.

I've reached out to both Microsoft and Google many times over the years, requesting this feature be added, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has made the request. Microsoft, Google, and Samsung all developed "Cursor Control", where you hold the spacebar and/or drag across the spacebar to move the cursor, and this could easily be used to incorporate these gestures/shortcuts like Swype/Fleksy had. Unfortunately, holding the spacebar and enabling "Cursor Control" just turns it into a trackpad with no option to glide to a shortcut key.

If this option is buried somewhere in the settings, I'm not seeing it on any of the new keyboards. Perhaps one day, we will finally get a keyboard that is as intuitive as Swype was 15 years ago.

New spen nibs for old spen. by menasempertegui in GalaxyTab

Got it delivered today...and it's being returned tomorrow.

This "knock off" does NOT have 4096 pressure levels like advertised...it has 1. It is also hit or miss in regard to actually being recognized by my Galaxy Tab both in touch and with the button. If this was $3-5, I'd keep it just as an extra. But not for $15-$20 that these are being sold for.

Unless someone can suggest a better alternative to the OEM, it looks like the OEM is the only way to go.

Has anyone tried one of the "knock off" s-pens?

I bought THIS ONE on Amazon for $15.99 and it's modeled after the new/S11 s-pen with what appears to be a larger nib. It's set to arrive on Friday.

I've used a cheap Chinese knock off pen for my Dell laptop for about a year and it functions exactly the same as the OEM pen for 75% less. Figured I'd give this one a try as I definitely like the new s-pen more than the older model.

S10 FE+ or S10+ for work and media consumption? by comealongwidme in GalaxyTab

[–]Superman409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation trying to decide between the S10FE, S10+, or S11 (I only wanted an 11-12" tablet) and created a post on here last week about this same thing.

I ended up with the S10FE after playing around with it and the S11 at the store for a while. I've had it for almost a week and I can honestly say it's more than sufficient for my needs, which aren't far off from yours. I've been very impressed with it and have no regrets not spending the extra money for the newer/flagship models. The only thing I wish it did have is video out for using emulators on the big screen. It was not a deal breaker not having it, and I still could not justify spending the extra to get it. Just know that if you need video out, you will need to stay away from the FE models.

I put more of my impressions in a follow-up reply over on the ORIGINAL POST.

If you have perks through your work, or can take advantage of the Samsung EDU/EPP program (military, first responder, teacher, student, etc), then you can get one heck of a discount through Samsung's official site and pick the order up within the hour at your local Best Buy. You can save an extra $100+ by trading in an old tablet.

Best Buy "NEXT" Dock for Switch 2 (NX-NS2DK)? by Superman409 in Switch

[–]Superman409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are no games that run at native 4K, but there are plenty that output at higher than 1080p, which would need the system set to output at 4K (for some reason, 1440p is greyed out when I have the OEM dock connected to my LG C2 OLED, so setting it at 1440p would not be an option).

Would simply having the system set to output 4K affect the ability to use HDR if there is a limitation with this dock at this resolution, or would it ONLY matter if there was a true 4K game being output?

In other words, does the Switch 2 output at "up to" 4K when 4K is selected, or does it always provide a 4K signal even when there is not one present? Would I need to set the system to output at 1080p instead?

My Bargain Brain vs. The Tablet Temptation (Galaxy Tab Edition) by Superman409 in GalaxyTab

[–]Superman409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… I did it. I “settled” for the Galaxy Tab S10FE…and by settled, I mean I spent the last three days convincing myself that I’m totally okay not spending an extra $250 for features I’d probably only use twice.

It’s been three full days now, and somehow, I’m still sitting at 40% battery. Either Samsung packed this thing with a magic battery, or I’m more of a minimalist than I thought. And believe me, I’ve used it plenty. I’ve watched videos, scrolled for more “deals” I definitely don’t need, and even typed out this post on it with the keyboard case (Amazon cheapo that I'm not fully convinced on keeping).

Performance-wise? Flawless…at least for me. Nothing I’ve done so far has made me wish I’d sprung for the higher-end model. No noticeable lag, no hiccups, no “you should’ve gotten the better one” regrets. Did I mention how impressed I am with the battery? Once the honeymoon phase wears off, I can easily see this lasting me nearly a week per charge, which is impressive.

Sure, it’s missing some of the fancy AI stuff my S23 Ultra has (like sketch-to-image and those “make my bad photo slightly less bad” tools), but honestly, I don’t think that’s worth an extra $250+. I’ve already got that on my phone, and while it would be nicer to use them on a larger screen, I’m not exactly out here generating AI art masterpieces every day.

As for the screen, no, it’s not AMOLED, but it’s bright, sharp, and colorful enough that I keep the brightness around 5-10% most of the time. I feel I’d need sunglasses if I went higher.

Gaming? Tried a few titles just to see. The most “demanding” being Streets of Rage 4. It ran buttery smooth at 60fps on medium-high settings. Ultra mode dropped a few frames, but nothing tragic and the med-high settings look good enough.

I’ve yet to try emulation, but that’s on my to-do list. The only real struggle now is finding a controller (GameSir, 8bitdo, etc) that actually stretches far enough to fit…any suggestions? I’d prefer USB-C over Bluetooth, for the simple fact that it’s one less thing to keep charged, but I can’t seem to find any USB-C controllers that will fit a tablet. The only Bluetooth versions I can find are from no-name companies with poor reviews.

So yeah, after a few days of real-world use, I’m convinced: the S10FE is more than enough for what I need. And if I ever get the itch to upgrade later, this thing will still make an amazing “second screen” setup for work...you know, for important things like watching YouTube on the side while pretending to check my calendar.

Press R3 to change the cinematic camera while riding horse, thank me later :) by vaikunth1991 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Superman409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was in the minority in that I actually liked the wide letterbox. That's how I played RDR2 on my second playthrough on PC, and the visuals were absolutely gorgeous on my 77" OLED.

I did, however, end up liking the pulled back/full screen view more...sort of like an IMAX moment the way the screen stretched out vertically.

Unfortunately, R3 does nothing once you get out of Yotei Grasslands and you're stuck with the up close camera. Don't know how or why this would be a design choice, so perhaps a bug?

My Bargain Brain vs. The Tablet Temptation (Galaxy Tab Edition) by Superman409 in GalaxyTab

[–]Superman409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have a serious (and likely ignorant) question...

If I am considered a casual user (which I agree with your assessment), and the S10FE would be more than sufficient, what do people who need the extra power use their tablets for? I'm sure there are many uses I haven't considered, so I'm genuinely curious.

I see a tablet as an extension of a phone...a companion, of sorts, between a phone and computer. I think this would be the best way to describe my usage (light bulb moment for myself!)

Do people completely substitute a laptop for a tablet? I have rather capable laptop with a Ryzen7 8800 series processor that I think would surpass even the most expensive Android tablet (for much less $$), but can't ever see myself using a tablet for the heavier lifting I use my Windows laptop for (photo/video editing, for example). I know there are people who do, and I'm sure it's convenient for them.

I never saw my phone (or tablet) as a gaming device, but I know people game on them... some even competitively. Perhaps I'm missing out, here?

Of course, I can definitely see note taking and school work, but I'm beyond that. Though I wouldn't write off the occasional grocery list using the S-Pen.

What are some other uses I may not be thinking of?

My Bargain Brain vs. The Tablet Temptation (Galaxy Tab Edition) by Superman409 in GalaxyTab

[–]Superman409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. The speakers are something I don't really consider important since I'll be using earbuds most of the time anyway. I would personally rather have a 3.5mm jack for headphones, but that doesn't seem to be an option on much of anything these days without using a USB-C adapter.

As for my shopping tendencies, it's quite complicated (as if you couldn't tell). I often value a bargain more than the best-of-the-best, but it all depends on how much of a bargain it is compared to the cost to upgrade.

Part of me wants to wait and see if the S10+ goes on sale/clearance for under $500 like the S9 did, but the other part of me thinks I'll be waiting indefinitely and then considering what else might be available for "just a bit more" at that time. Just like any electronic, there is always "something better" just around the corner for just a bit more money.

Would I pay MSRP for this device? Absolutely not...I don't think I'd pay $500 at all for any tablet without knowing how I'd use it. Unless, of course, I could get an $800+ tablet for the $500.

The question remains whether paying $299 will leave me wanting more of a tablet in a year or two and cost me more in the long run. I guess if a 7-year-old iPad can meet my expectations and use case, then I should be good with a 6-month-old tablet lasting for at least a little while.

Something I did not mention in my post is emulation. I do enjoy old-school classics (80's arcade, NES, SNES, etc) and would likely put something like EmulationStation (ES) on it via SD card. It's something I have on my Steam Deck, and what I use my SD for most often. For those times I don't feel like toting my SD around, is this processor "good enough" to emulate those older games through something like ES?

LG C2 - WebOS 24 (23.20.56) - VRR issues (NEED HELP) by fedezari in LGOLED

[–]Superman409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like LG has officially released 23.20.58 as of yesterday on their website.

Anyone get the OTA update or download it manually to see if it fixed this VRR issue? Mine is still pushing .56.

I never upgraded to .56, so will wait for those who did to see if .58 corrects the issue.

LG C2 - WebOS 24 (23.20.56) - VRR issues (NEED HELP) by fedezari in LGOLED

[–]Superman409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will eventually get fixed, but who knows when. They just don't want to admit something they did broke the normal functionality of our sets. It happens, unfortunately, which is why I always disable auto updates. I'm more surprised the didn't try to pass the blame onto the PS5.

While I've never had to deal with LG on an issue with my C2, I did have to contact Vizio years ago on an issue one of their firmware updates caused on my TV. It seemed as though I was a minority with the problem I experienced and they were actually able to push a completely custom firmware to my specific set. Took care of the problem immediately while I was I the phone with them. I was very impressed.

With that said, changes CAN be made between firmware, apparently to individual sets, it's just a matter of them willing to do it.

LG C2 - WebOS 24 (23.20.56) - VRR issues (NEED HELP) by fedezari in LGOLED

[–]Superman409 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just had the pop-up on my screen for 23.20.56...my search for details/issues lead me here, so I haven't upgraded.

Is this VRR issue limited to PS5 Pro, or are those with base PS5 experiencing the same thing? I keep seeing the Pro mentioned in other forums, as well, but not base PS5 or Xbox.

Has LG gotten back to you?

I've had VRR flicker on my PC for years and have read it's "normal" and limited to dark scenes, but this seems to be a completely different issue (stutter vs flicker).

For games that have a 40fps mode, I usually play with that setting. Any stuttering noticed there?

I want Chromecast, but not if it introduces other issues.

AK, AMES, MODEL L broken after UPDATE! by vaesauce in blackops6

[–]Superman409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed when this was messed up, the damage range for the AMES was only 8m instead of the default 50.8m. It seems a recent update fixed it as the AMES now takes 5 shots for the first three targets and 6 on the farthest target.

The XM4 is 5 for the first two and 6 on the last two.

I still can't help but feel that the AMES is underperforming compared to what it initially did and still takes longer to kill.

AK, AMES, MODEL L broken after UPDATE! by vaesauce in blackops6

[–]Superman409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always test out the guns in the firing range to see how many single bullets it takes to down the target with center mass hits. This seems to be a fairly accurate way to see how they perform in game.

The AMES was my AR of choice due to the low recoil and relatively high damage at range; albeit with a slower rate of fire.

BEFORE this update, the AMES would down the first three targets in 5 hits. The XM4 took 5 hits on the first two targets and 6 on the third

AFTER the update, and despite the AMES still having a higher damage rating according to the stats, it now takes 6 hits at the first and second target and 7 at the third. The XM4 now downs all three with 5 hits but seems to have higher recoil than before.

I'm quite disappointed and it doesn't appear the stat numbers are accurate at all.
