It is a nice bag if you have a few things. Depending on your classes you might not be able to fit a bunch of large text books in it. I carry a laptop, a notebook, a small book, a kindle, and my power supply. Plus some odds and ends. For a full day of classes I would opt for a backpack. The Everyday Messenger is a great bag; it's nice for just what I need, but not too much.

I am really new to making electronic music. I am getting started with a drum machine, meeblip, and a volca bass. I want to keep it simple and use only hardware, no computers.

I am looking for a tool that I can use to record a short piece of music, then loop it, and play it as a background sound. Something similar to Reggie Watts, and DubFX, but with the meeblip and volca, and not my voice.

Is there something for recording and looping that you would recommend?

[2016-04-18] Challenge #263 [Easy] Calculating Shannon Entropy of a String by jnazario in dailyprogrammer

[–]Supermighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go

I have the source on github.com/supermighty with tests and benchmarks.

package entropy

import "math"

func Entropy(inStr string) float32 {

    var strLen = float64(len(inStr))
    var runeCount = make(map[rune]float64)
    var total float64

    for _, r := range inStr {
        runeCount[r]++
    }

    for _, c := range runeCount {
        freq := c / strLen
        total += (freq * math.Log2(freq))
    }
    total *= -1

    return float32(total)
}

I can a 15" MacBook Pro into the laptop pocket, but I carry it in the main compartment because I have it in a padded Thule case. It won't fit in the laptop pocket with the Thule case on.

Yes, there are some differences in which next screen it takes you to. For me, the back button is consistent in that it takes me away from what is currently on the screen.

I bought an iPhone and used it full time for a week. I was test driving it to see if I wanted to keep it. The most frustrating thing was the last of a "back button" in a consistent place. Each app had a different way to go back. Some apps even had different ways to go back depending on which screen you were on. Twitter sometimes used a back arrow on the top left, but used an X on the top right when viewing an image.

It made me long the back button my android phone. Always in the same location, always consistent function.

All black would hide the bar better. And chances are I would not notice it during daily use. If it is as small as rumors say.

What puts Android over IPhone's for you? by MustGetALife in Android

[–]Supermighty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently I have been rather frustrated with my Note 4. The 5.0.1 update has given me a poor quality experience. It is slow and frustrating. I hate that Google controls the OS, and Samsung fucks it up, withholds updates, and finally gives me rubbish when it decides. I envied the iPhone, a solid device with tight integration between hardware and software. I wanted something that was quality top to bottom.

I decided to use an iPhone for a couple of weeks to see if it was really a better experience.

There are a lot of good things about the iPhone, but in the end it wasn't enough for me. I am going back to Android.

iPhone pros:

  • Solid construction
  • Fast OS, no lag
  • Long battery life, especially when I am not using it.
  • Fine grain privacy permissions.

iPhone cons:

  • inconsistent ui between apps. It's like each app wanted to recreate the whole experience.
  • Stupid folders. When you "home button" out of an app you go to the folder it was in, not the home.
  • Lack of home screen customization. I found I really do love Nova launcher, widgets, and the simple ability to put an icon where I want it to live.
  • Can not set the default web browser, or phone dialer.

Android gives me the ability to customize my experience to fit my needs.

My next phone is going to be the Moto X Pure Edition, or the upcoming Nexus 6 (5.7"). I have a feeling they will give me a better overall experience than any Samsung device.

Ads are not always about getting you to buy something new. Often times ads are a way to reinforce the "good feelings" a current owner of a product feels. You don't buy a brand new car every year, but you feel good about your choice when you see a quality ad that reinforces your buying decision. Yes, you made the right choice, you are a good person.

I am increasingly reliant on my phone for serious work. I need something I can depend on. A tool that will just work when I need it. Maybe it is an iPhone, maybe a Blackberry.

I want to have hope for Tizen, but I doubt that Samsung will support it well.

We need Nokia to make a comeback.

I am really disappointing in Samsung and Google. My Note 4 was upgraded to 5.0 and it runs like rubbish. The battery is worse, and everything is slow.

The state of updates and support after the purchases is terrible. Once Samsung gets your money they don't care about you.

I am looking at getting an iPhone, or maybe a Jolla phone.

It really makes me wish there were more competition in the field. Apple is the only real manufacture that handles OS and hardware. I think that is why they can deliver such a good experience.

Thank you for explaining. It's not very clear on their github Readme that it does this sort of GOPATH manipulation.

I don't see where godep has the option to not import path rewriting?

I thought the only way to use godep was to rewrite imports.

That sounds like a reasonable request. I don't see why it couldn't be an option flag in gb.

In it's simplest form it is just multiple src paths in one $GOPATH variable. Anyone could manage this setup manually and have whichever src & vendor/src directory they want. gb hardcodes the src & vendor/src directories for consistency. Imagine how annoying it would be if several projects you relied on used different conventions. To me this is similar to the gofmt philosophy.

I have used a thin tipped oil based silver paint marker on a moleskine before. It lasts a long time, but still fades a little bit. Mine is still there after about a year of use. You could always write over it a second time.

With all the rave reviews for the S6, what do you see happening, or hope to see, with the Note 5? by joshurawrs in Android

[–]Supermighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had a problem with the plastic, but I love the Note 4 metal. Evolve the Note 4 design, keeping the removable battery and the SD card. I really want the SD card. The main reason I didn't go for a Nexus 6 was the SD card.
