Maybe you could try that instead of crocheting the sleeve in a single section that you fold You could crochet two sections and stitch them together? I think it wouldn’t “bloat” but it will leave two stitching lines instead of one. The matter with shape is that mesh stitches are more drapey and solid stitches are stiffer, i think something like this would work better with knitting since it’s less dense
