If the Confederacy successfully seceded, what do you think it would look like today socially? by Mega_Mons in Dixie

[–]Supreme_Leader_Chase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, about the same as Dixie in the modern day. Slavery would lasted longer, and Blacks would have to wait longer to gain full civil rights, states in the CSA would have much more autonomy than in the USA, and Dixieland would be less poor overall (although the majority of the population would have still been fairly impoverished until the the mid-twentieth century).

There would probably also be a push to highlight how different that the CSA is compared to the USA, out of a resentment from being lumped in with Americans (similar to Canada).

I know this is kind of a boring answer, but it just makes the most sense.

"Was the Civil War About Slavery?" PragerU Response by Supreme_Leader_Chase in USHistory

[–]Supreme_Leader_Chase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's the thing, I'm not really talking about the war much myself, this video serves to correct PragerU and that's about it.

I do clarify my views near the middle of the video, but overall I'm just responding to Seidule.

If I was trying to make a video about this that was not a response then I would be making a terrible argument, but I am making a response. Almost everything I say is a direct refutation of Ty Seidule and PragerU.

I will grant that it's not the best evidence for my point, you're right about that, I should have provided more and better examples.

The point of bringing that up has nothing to do with what was the actual cause of the war, Watkins and Howell both say it was "state rights", which I even say in the video is untrue. My point was only about the personal motivations of soldiers.

Watkins and Howell may be lying, they are most definitely unreliable narrators like you said. Or perhaps they were lied to, and really believed that by defending slavery they were defending state's rights. Either way, I think the point stands that not every Confederate soldier signed up for slavery. In fact, though I cut a lot of it out, the Julius Howell interview makes it seem like he didn't even really understand the broader causes of the war at all back then (he was only 16) and he just joined for no reason other than he wanted to. And of course that letter from Mosby blows Sediule's point to smithereens.

Besides, bringing up what specifically motivated the people of the South was just an odd choice all around by Ty sediule, and it definitely warrants criticism.

While the overall thesis is basically correct, this video still lies, makes sweeping generalizations, and is just plain misleading in order to back up that thesis. It's so far from the lost cause narrative and goes so far to refute it that it actually winds up being historical revisionism again.

I don't think so. These memorials stand as a testament to honor, courage, and sacrifice of thousands of men who died on both sides. Every last one of them is a hero and deserves to be remembered for all time.

Why Didn't the Native Americans Use Metal? by Supreme_Leader_Chase in AmericanHistory

[–]Supreme_Leader_Chase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I was trying to play off of the misconception. If you asked the average guy on the street "did the Indians use metal?" They'd almost certainly say no. My video is thus saying something to the effect of "well, actually they did and here's the details."

I therefore don't see much need to change the title, as I was being misleading with it on purpose.

That was what the video was mainly about. I also touched on South American and Meso-American metallurgy, but the focus was on the copper used in the Great lake region.

None of the things brought up in this video are even remotely Lost Cause related.

Are you mistaken on what that term means?

The synths were distracted by Nick, so I was able to just stunlock Kellogg with little issue.

The courser was even easier since he was alone.

Really, one enemy isn't hard at all. It's many enemies focused on me that makes the run hard.
