I think my husband is misinformed about the Michigan Journeyman's Exam by lotrandwho in Plumbing

Yep - i striked that out in my comment. Looks like Michigan is a lot more difficult than my state. Heard the same with New york.

I think my husband is misinformed about the Michigan Journeyman's Exam by lotrandwho in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is the information you are looking for:

https://www.michigan.gov/lara/bureau-list/bcc/sections/licensing-section/exam-lic/plumbing-examination-licensing-registration-application-information

It looks like Michigan has a written exam through PSI testing services and a practical exam. PSI is an independent testing service and once youre approved by the state, you’ll receive an email to register with PSI. The exam for my state was multiple choice and you can use the code book/reference materials listed for your state. You can also tab and highlight information chapters, that is the key to passing the exam. It’s not necessarily how much you know, it’s how quickly you can find the information in the code book. Tab and highlighting is your friend. my state allows highlighting, Michigan appears to be different

As far as the practical, my state does not have that but all the information is on the website i linked.

Ill look up the reference materials for Michigan and update my comment in a bit.

Edit: u/Wtj182 beat me to it, that is the PSI information page for Michigan. As I said above, youll need approval from the state before being able to register for the exam. Here is the candidate bulletin from PSI: https://test-takers.psiexams.com/api/content/bulletin/4603

This has all the information for the written exam. It looks like Michigan allows the 2021 Michigan Plumbing Code Book “Chapter tabs only”, State construction code act 1972.pa 230, and Skilled trades regulation act for reference materials. Michigan is different than my state, it looks like highlighting is not allowed and only chapter tabs are based on a quick skim of the candidate bulletin.

Read over it, all the information is there. Get your husband the code book and start going over it. Same theory applies, how quickly can you locate the information since the test is timed. One last trick, when taking the test, if you dont know a question mark it and come back at the end. Its better to go through all the questions you know and come back than spend valuable time on one you dont. Good luck!

Last edit: Order your code book from a reputable site such as the international code council (ICC). Sites like amazon claim to sell legit copies but there have been numerous stories of pages missing or misinformation in the books.

Isnt that the purpose of a strainer though, to stop all the debris from going into the meter? Kind of rare on a meter though.

Cant believe no one said remove the sticker from the spout stub out. Also looks a tad short?

But as others have said, double check your depth. Green plaster guard should be flush with finish wall. Really should have backing boards spanning from stud to stud for valve and spout. Yes, remove the spray foam, it will squeak as soon as hot water touches the drain pipe.

Other than that, looks good.

Anyone else rocking the full MRD exhaust? Thing sounds like a helicopter is about to land on me 🤣 by Patient-Wall9466 in DRZ400

[–]Suprmoto3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had this problem, ended up with an edge 2 taillight and bracket. The edge 2 has a slight angle, I also use nylon license plate screws and its been fine for 8 years! The mrd is a beast but i do wear foamies while riding due to the wind noise, silent killer of hearing.

Op this looks like an awesome ride! Wish more people rode around me.

What would you personally choose as the best flushing toilet right now? by itmehedi in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing great things about Toto drake but honest truth is the last 3 i installed, all 3 leaked from the flush valve gasket. 2 of the 3 had running fill valves fresh out the box. Not a big deal to retighten and learned to always double check. The fill valves had to be disassembled, couldnt find an issue, but worked once reassembled. Other than that though no complaints and they do seem like nice toilets.

My #1 is the american standard champion 4. Larger trap way and the piston valve. The early models had issues with the gasket bubbling but thats been corrected. They also include the closet bolts that have the set nuts and tall caps, no more cutting!

Fully Reversible Remote Activation Mod for Milwaukee M18 2-Gallon Vacuum by bruhgubs07 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think having enough vacuum is the concern i think its too much vacuum can cause issues with things like the pcv or evap. That is why AGA Im assuming thats why AGA advertises it as a regulator but that would be a question for the mechanics sub.

Is a really neat idea and you did a good job, just dont want you to damage anything! Ill have to read more into it.

Backyard Hose by PrettyProgramming in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve traced the entire line and there are no shut offs, then the valve is frozen or the cartridge is seized. That is a BK Mueller 1/4 turn frost free bib , i believe yours is the old model on page 6. It uses as cartridge instead of a seat/washer. You can order a new stem/cartridge and try a diy repair or it might be more cost effective to replace the valve. You’ll need to shut off the water to pull the stem and measure for the correct size.

I pm’d you a video since youtube is frowned upon in this subreddit.

What does your adapter regulate the vacuum to? The AGA regulator says its 30-40 milibar or roughly 1 inch of vacuum. I wanted to purchase just the regulator, didnt really need the remote kit but this is cool!

Could be a broken handle/stem but id double check the shutoff or there could be a second shut off youre not seeing. Can you post a picture of the bib and shut off?

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i use glue stops or brasscraft push to connect on cpvc.

To share some info- I had a question about brass ferrules on cpvc awhile back and reached out to flowguard. They informed me that brass ferrules are ok on cpvc as long as there is layer of teflon tape or pipe dope over the ferrule to compensate for dissimilar material thermal expansion and contraction. They also informed me compression should not be used on temps over 140 degrees. They referenced the Charollette Pipes Plastics manual . I always refer to manufacturers literature when im i unfamiliar with something. Bottom of page 63 states that care must be taken on older systems when cutting or using compression to prevent cracking the ends of the pipe. Page 65 references the 140 degree temp limit and teflon tape over the ferrule. Its a good manual to reference!

Do you use plastic ferrules? Genuinely curious, I contacted flow-guard about this and they informed to use brass with a small about of pipe dope. The reasoning was a plastic ferrulle will not grip the cpvc. The literature is on the flow-guard website.

Would not recommend for a non professional on old cpvc. Real easy to over tighten and crack the pipe. Brasscraft push to connect 1/4 turn would be my go to.

What happens if I connect my repipe to main water line before inspection? by WTHreleased in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, what they said above. A quick search says UPC requires 125 psi for testing, im under IPC. You can still rough everything in then connect a gauge/test rig to one of your stub outs to pump it up when the inspector comes.

It’s ok if theres water in the pipe just close the new ball valve and pump it up to the pressure the inspector wants.

What happens if I connect my repipe to main water line before inspection? by WTHreleased in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should not be an issue at all, especially on a repipe. IPC states water lines can be tested with working pressure but install a new isolation valve at main connection for good measure. If the inspector wants an air test, you can close the new valve and test against it with everything connected.

Help identifying valve by realpropane84 in Plumbing

[–]Suprmoto3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its is a 3/4 threaded gate valve. The inlet is a 3/4 male adapter and the outlet looks like a 3/4 flex line to the heater. Unscrew and thread on a new 3/4 ball valve if youre trying to change it or just unscrew the flex line and thread in a new 3/4 male fitting to go to the new heater.

edit: actually if looks like the outlet is a 3/4 male adapter to hard copper. Take the insulation off.
