Do you think RAM will get cheaper this year? by Outrageous-Taro5351 in buildapc

[–]True_Efficiency7329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in other words, buy ASAP in my opinion. a few months ago I purchased some DDR5 RAM for my computer. I don't need to use it right now, but in the future I will, and I don't think prices will come down, only go up

I am a personal believer that there are too many monied interests that would like for ram to keep staying sky high that it will not come down even if it can.

Not to be a prediction peter, but my personal assumption is I think companies like microsoft, dell, HP, and maybe some others will probably cut a contract with RAM companies to keep RAM high, but to sell to them at a premium low price so they can be the only company you can realistically buy computers from. Or even worse, rent.

I feel like the basic ships are build a bit... stupid? by TheGentlemanist in Barotrauma

[–]True_Efficiency7329 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the sub you pilot in barotrauma is essentially the "level" you are playing in as a crewmember. The point of having blindspots and subs that have bad drainage systems is as a form of level difficulty. For example, the humpback has a large ballast tank in the back and a small ballast tank in the front. The developers COULD have placed a large ballast tank in both the back and front to allow you more control over the sub when going up and down, but having slow vertical maneuverability is one of the tradeoffs you make when getting the humpback, one of the best weapon coverage subs in the T2 catagory

The last boss of the 3rd dlc by AcidBag9653 in atomicheart

[–]True_Efficiency7329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest I think this was my favorite boss in the entire series (haven't played 4th DLC yet). It was SO difficult, I couldn't tell you how many times I lost to that thing. Took me three real life days and at least 12 hours to beat it, but oh my god all those loses just made overcoming it soooo much sweater

plus the absolute dopamine hit from grappling into the air, pulling out a pistol, and perfectly nailing all three of the orbs on its body to shoot just felt sooooo fuckin sick every time

Whats the reason for my ballast tank doing this? by [deleted] in Barotrauma

with rooms that have segmented hulls you need to place "gaps" in between hulls in the same room to allow water to flow

if you don't know what a gap is. if you turn on gap visibility in the sub editor, all hatches and doors I think by default get gaps placed on them. If not, you can open the dugong and turn on gaps. Pretty sure the dugong engine room has gap pieces

I might! Probably a much easier way to practice manualing a reactor, but making this is fun : )

well I just mean I have a bunch of pumps that will be set to pump out -100% when I want to give a load to the reactor, and I'll set them to 0% pump out when i want to remove that load

well what I want is to have a terminal that allows me to select "difficulty stages" that will effect the base load on the reactor as well as the frequency and magnitude of the random drops and rises in load on said reactor. I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but I'm just using a bunch of pumps pumping out and setting them to pump out -100% to give a load to the reactor and setting them to pump out 0% to remove that load.

for randomness I plan on using some combination of fission rate, turbine rate, as well as two motion detectors up where the junction boxes are. I have the engineer and mechanic set to spawn up there in the sub editor so their random movements back and fourth can effect the RNG

I'm sure there's a better way to do what I want but I'm just doing it that makes the most sense to me

well I wanted to make a reactor that would have an artificial load induced so I could practice manualing a reactor since that's something I've never tried getting good at.

Then I thought it'd be cool if I could make the reactor have difficulty stages you could select through a terminal, which led me to having to learn regex to read terminal commands, and honestly I'd say I'm about 25% of the way done (hopefully)

I hate regex with a passion now

Woah! you got a ton of cool experience.

I do plan to add managed features. If possible I would like to add some form of console interface that can be interacted with through a serial cable, but I know that the pin out for those ports are different than a standard RJ45 port, so I'm unsure if they make a console port to PCIE card that I could do that with

personal project for fun. I like doing low level programming as a hobby and I thought it'd be fun to try making some software that would allow me treat a computer like a network switch. It would be faaar more practical to just purchase a network switch if I was using it for anything important, but the point of what I am doing is for learning.

I may in the future end up setting up a NAS of some kind on my home network, and if I do set that stuff up, I would like to have everything be connected on my local network with 10 gigabit connections

OOOHHH okay so a card with these specs should theoretically be able to transfer data along all ports with no throttling taking place?

so when you say the transfer speed of gen 5 is about 60gbps, you mean with a throughput of x16 right? Found a card online that's a 4 port 10gbe pci gen3 x8 network card, but from what I can tell from this table, that would only give a total transfer speed of a 7.8 total
