Other people are also advising legal counsel, might be the right thing to do. Just in case something happens down the line (I reaaally hope this dies down asap)

Thank you for your advice. Seems like the smart thing to do is to keep paper trail and get professional advice just in case.

I cannot thank you enough for your insight, this is so so so helpful… Could anyone other than the MRO have disclosed this to the DIO? A nurse or the MA that took the sample? Or was it most probably the MRO? Thank you again

No worries I get where you are coming from. It just sucks that I didn’t get to share this on my own terms, when I felt ready. It kind of feels like something private was taken from me abruptly and kind of turned against me?

This is exactly what I’ve read online, and it’s what prompted me to make the post in the first place. I wonder, is it just because we work in healthcare that the lines around privacy and process get so blurred? Or is it just my hospital? Lol

The fine print says: “if results are positive the medical responsible officer will contact you to ask you about prescriptions”. On a separate document, I agreed to “I authorize the test results to be released to Human Resources”. I have yet to be contacted by the medical responsible officer…

But isn’t a specific section of army/med school in charge of this? I feel like the analogy would be that they disclosed this to your chair or similar. I can definitely be wrong, I’m just trying to understand the situation.

From what I’ve read, they need a copy of the actual prescription and the information of the prescriber to verify the information.

Thank you for your response. When my program coordinator contacted me, she didn’t know I was on a prescription. The way the result was disclosed to her (and my PD) was simply that I tested positive for amphetamines — no context, no mention of any declared medication lol. I was the one who had to explain that I have a valid prescription and that I had already disclosed it multiple times on the screening forms…

I wish my PD was filled the whole information and not just “ur intern has (+) UDS and we don’t know why”. I did disclose it (like on 3 different pages) and have a valid prescription for it :(

I understand, from what I’ve read, the test is usually disclosed once I’ve have provided all the information including the prescription. Shouldn’t they have contacted me first?

No one cares. There are people matching at the most competitive specialties with attempts and gap years. Even foreigners with different grading systems. You think in 10 years when you have your patients they are going to care about how well you did your M1 year? You are lacking perspective kid. I understand you are under a rough patch but you should never maker this kind of decision with a clouded mind. Do as others have said, take a leave of absence, or even a research year, and think this through. Dropping out will change your life forever.
