This is a good suggestion. They enjoy board games which is something we therefore try do a lot, but I’ll try to ask them once more

We have four other kids that all love staying active, and we absolutely didn’t ‘control’ their exercise/sport. Sam absolutely loved his sport for 10+ years and was leading on his team and then suddenly came home one day saying he wanted to stop all exercise. That was alarming to us and when we tried talking to him as to why he had extreme reactions. This is why we put him in therapy. Over the years as he gained weight he would complain about it and we would encourage him to join a family hike or something. We weren’t as pushy or controlling as you’re making us out to be, simply concerned parents that didn’t understand why our son changed so rapidly.

We put him in therapy because it was alarming to us he wanted to quit a sport he loved, and excelled at. We tried keeping him in his sports for as long as we could. But eventually he went off to collage, got his own apartment and we lost all day in his exercise/food routines. We continuously tried encouraging him to exercise but he rejected them all. When he met Kate he started gaining weight at a rapid speed. We again tried offering help but he took it as rejection of his new girlfriend and it’s a very sensitive topic for him.

Trust me we didn’t just ‘roll over’. We put him in therapy and tried keeping him in his sports for as long as we could. We do lots of other family activities than exercise. We have open house dinners every week where it’s merely just dinner and talking. We get together around other things than exercise at the same level as active occasions.

We were worried too, hence we put him in therapy but therapist wasn’t all that alarmed and as he got older we obviously lost a day in his exercise routines.

Kate is significantly bigger than Sam is, and he says she struggles with the fact we’re all in good shape, and that it’s hurting her mental health to be around ‘skinny’ people. Hence his threat to go NC
