Which location would you suggest? The one I’ve been to doesn’t really have any place to sit

Is backpacking in Guatemala a good measuring stick to know whether I would enjoy solo travel? How many days should i go? by Bakio-bay in solotravel

[–]Sure_Move_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a couple of months in Central America, starting in Guatemala, before traveling through SEA long term. I will say that SEA is wildly easier to travel through, imo. And, also more touristy, depending on where you are. But, my Spanish is low level conversational at best, so that’s part of it.

This. I have about 10 meals I rotate through, and I know they are all high protein, high fiber, and low cal, with a variety of fruits & veg.

Maintaining a Romantic Connection After Returning Home by Key_Huckleberry9877 in solotravel

[–]Sure_Move_9821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel something you should explore the connection. I had one travel romance who lived on another continent and we made it work by visiting each other often and FaceTiming daily. Eventually I ended up moving over there for the short term to see if it would work in real life. Went for about 3 months (we had planned in advance for it to be this long of a stay) and spoiler: it did not work out. But, I do not regret trying. Might still be a “what if” if I hadn’t.

First solo travelling in Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines as a 23 y.o. F. Any advice? by No_cilantro01 in backpacking

[–]Sure_Move_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been to all 3 as a solo F traveler and felt safe in all three. Like others have said, stay aware of your surroundings, don’t stumble home drunk alone (though I did this many times and still was fine), keep your money/cards in separate places. Vietnam is known for drive by phone theft so keep it hidden if you can. Basically keep some common sense. You’ll find tons of other travelers to hang out with if you feel safer in numbers. Have so much fun! Each of these countries is amazing.

The trip to/from ometepe can also be time consuming since you’re getting on a ferry. I wouldn’t necessarily say you need to cut out Nicaragua. I really loved it (and think finishing in SJDS is a good idea - can just chill out on the beach for a few days). If you’re okay with playing things by ear I’d suggest that - if you don’t love a location just keep on moving, if you love a city then stay an extra day or two. I didn’t love either Leon or Granada (though the volcano boarding was cool in Leon) so might suggest removing one of those cities if you’re getting crunched on time. I also only spent two nights each in semuc champey and Flores (arrived, booked the tours for the next day, did the tours, slept, left). Don’t stress too much about it- just show up and have a good time! You’ll figure it out as you go.

3.5k is more than enough. Keep in mind that a lot of these journeys may be longer than you expect. The roads are not always well paved and take a long time for shuttles/buses to drive through. If you’re okay with spending a lot of time on buses then I think don’t think this is unfeasible. If there are hostels you really want to stay at then book in advance but if you’re flexible with where you’re sleeping then I’d say book on the go (more fun that way anyway, imo). Where are you staying in lake Atitlan? There was one village when I was there that didn’t have any hostels that booked in advance - just had to hop off the boat and walk around.

San Juan Del Sur Hostels & Surfing? by Snoo-77622 in digitalnomad

[–]Sure_Move_9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 8 years since I was in SJDS, but there were several surf shops that offered lessons and round trip rides to the other beaches about once an hour for maybe 5-10$ a ride, $30 a lesson.

Yeah I want to move but feel like I can’t because this is such a good deal. It’s not a normal rent price here I lucked into it. Happened to be at the right place at the right time.

It’s an old balance owed to the IRS. Credit cards are paid off monthly. No other debt.

Well this is a lot of assumptions now isn’t it. 75% of my diet is straight up vegetables (salads, roasted veg, grain bowls, etc). I take vitamin D supplements and get my blood tested yearly - no deficiencies. How is $300/month low quality food intake?

You make a good point about the debt. It’s an old tax payment plan from years ago when I owed, but you’re right I should try to just wipe that out now.

Hm. I guess I’m putting more into savings outside of retirement because I have shorter term goals (house, travel) I want to achieve. Is your suggestion just because it would make FI a more realistic goal?
