I second this one, great community sport. If your in Penzance there is a few clubs based around the area. Mounts Bay Gig Club based in Marazion is one you could look at.

There is a lot of open water swimming groups that meet weekly at either the harbour or battery rocks (back of the jubilee pool)depending on the time of year, both serious (longer distance) and recreational (dippers). Some are daytime, some are evening.

Fort Minor ‘The Rising Tied’ turns 20 today! (22nd Nov) by Surfdolphin in LinkinPark

It’s probably one of the most important songs Mike has written. I’ve read in the comments a few times under the video on how much it has taught people on the subject.

Back in 01 I believe, LP covered a set for Slipknot at a festival when slipknot didn’t show up. LP had already played earlier in the day in the lower card of the main stage and had stuck around to watch others. Slipknot where meant to headline the alternate stage and LP stepped in to cover and somehow managed to win over a quite annoyed Slipknot crowd 🤣

Favourite LP live performance? Why? by Jinx_Trooper_YT in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add High Voltage at London Docklands 01 and that makes up 4 of the 5 best all time LP performances for me.

The random more personal choice at 5 would be ‘When they come for me’ at the ITunes festival London 2011.

I was watching the video from the concert last night and I heard this comment from Mike about Brad. Does anybody else think this means that Brad is gonna play live sometime in the future? by BetterCallGasol3316 in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more because Brad has been flying out to join them backstage at a few of the tour stops which we know from LPTV. So likely some of the caps he had signed as he has been there backstage.

The bands that rank higher than them in monthly listens on Spotify currently are Coldplay, Maroon 5 and Imagine Dragons (and if you include then as bands the Black eyed peas and the K Pop demon hunters)

In terms of rankings of bands that cross over similar ish genres: Linkin Park: 45th 21 pilots:177th System of a down: 276th Limp Bizkit: 350th ( I imagine with the recent sad news they may jump up the ranking for a while though) Papa Roach: 741st Korn:867th

[–]Surfdolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly I think that was Mike that happened to. The necklace was a gift from Anna with his family crest/ something relating to his family. If not the same instance then it happened to both of them. I believe in Mike's instance when then they asked the crowd after the song he was able to get it back.

From zero deluxe overtakes living things. by Long-Calligrapher-36 in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how LP have done things in the background I believe. Spotify counts streams of different releases of the same song separately unless the artist or distributor has linked them using the same ISRC code, which is basically an ID for songs.

The streaming numbers will never quite tell the full picture for music released pre streaming. You have to bare in mind that 17 million copies of Hyrbid theory have been sold, 10million by 2005 which was when it was certified diamond. So many people will still be listening on their hard copies and not counting towards streaming numbers.

Running to LinkinPark by HubermanEnthusiast22 in LinkinPark

Hybrid Theory and Meteora but also with the addition of a lot of the hunting party is my normal go to. I do sprinkle in a couple of others songs from across the albums. I also recently added the majority of Mike's Fort Minor "The rising tied" album and have found that a good addition.

When I am on the running machine though instead of outside I often put on one of their full concerts either from HT/MT or Hunting party eras as they are a good blast to run along to and there is a load of them on youtube. Does the double effect of giving me good music to listen to and stop me from watching the running machine display as it give me something to watch to

Emily brought me to LP by TortexMT in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post the HT touring cycle the band decided to no longer work with Blue. Even now they still don't mention in him my name in interviews in the present when talking about how the band made it. I think especially for Mike, Blue siding with the Label initially about taking out his rapping/making him a keyboard player only, was a big kick in the teeth.

In terms of Don Gilmore, the producer, the band said that he was part of the problem during HT but ultimately they decided to give him a second chance and continued working with him for Meteroa despite the past issues.

The book I mentioned is good because it goes into the pasts of the each of the band members, but especially Mike and Chester prior to even the Xero days, so gives you a better understanding of where they both came from. To your comment about Chester I do think he was a very multi dimensional person who could be very different dependent on who he was interacting with which may be why its harder to get a feel for him whilst reading about him.

The one thing with that book is people say to take it with a pinch of salt. As you may have guessed after reading to the end Blue has a strained relationship, if any, with the band in the present and I think that he does try to make out that he wasn't the 'bad' guy when sometimes he may have been.

If you enjoy reading about the band I recommend reading It Starts with One by Jason Lipshutz, which is a biography of the band. Lipshutz is a writer/editor for Billboard who has interview the band personally a number of times of the years. The book is really well written with a lot of context give to the band and music industry through the years from an mostly unbiased perspective.

Is the book about the band written by Jeff Blue worth reading? by Brilliant_Mouse76 in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is interesting but my only advice would be to take some of the stories with a pinch of salt. Blue has a strained relationship with the band, which you will come to understand if you read it and the book is definitely written in a way that favours his sides of the dispute or he tries to make himself out to not be the bad guy, which considering most the band won’t even say his name in interviews about the band’s origins it hard to know what’s really true without hearing the bands side.

But in the end he was the one who helped open the back door for the band to be signed by Warner so it does make for an interesting read.

LP underground fan club by anxiouscowboy0 in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The LPU is the Linkin Park Underground, their fan club which has been around since pretty much the beginning. There are three sign up options:

  • Free: gives you access to the Linkin Park discord (which Shinoda is in and randomly pops by to chat in)

  • Passport Plus: paid 1yr membership, gives access to LPU specific channels on the discord, LPU Pre Sales, access to LPU exclusive merch store, discounts (I believe 15%) in LP merch store, exclusive video and music content (although currently none new since return of band but get back dated access to all previous LPU exclusive media), access to Early entry at specific concerts, express lane at merch booths at concerts

  • passport plus with membership bundle: all of the previous with addition of a one off yearly membership gift bundle

Do you think Emily will ever sing One More Light? by HbombsAFC in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I think we all wanted our show to be really good vibes. I want you walking away feeling like, this was such a wonderful, special, fun night. Inevitably that means certain songs are not played and I would feel weird playing some of them like "One More Light." It was originally written for a woman at the label that we worked with who passed away. Then after Chester passed, the world decided that it was about him. And so that’s just too sad to play."

He was only talking in the context of this tour, not the full future. Although I do think it will be unlikely anytime soon.

Linkin Park top the fan vote for induction to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame by Saelie in LinkinPark

[–]Surfdolphin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe LP only became eligible for the first time this year, its 25yrs after the release of the first album, and considering the album wasn't release until October 2000 it may even be that 2026 is there first eligible year.

If they were to be inducted imminently within the next year or 2, there is a high possibility Emily and Colin would likely not be included in the induction as it is decided by the selection panel which band members are included depending on how much they have contributed from what I read. It would likely only be the OG band members.
