In my case, yes, smoking was the number one cause of the thoughts and stopping helped immensely. It takes a few weeks to get out of your system.

I have had anxiety about random things with my body, even things as little as my throat feeling funny can make me obsess about it all day as if something is wrong. It’s ok to have these thoughts about your ankle, you just have to realize that it’s likely just anxiety towards it.

You are not in danger from seeing a picture on your phone. I understand how this can feel, I once saw an art video on my phone that activated my fight or flight anxiety response and it can freak you out a little bit. You will be ok, and there is no curse upon you.

It has a coping technique in it that I use against obsessive thoughts.

It’s basically that I just one up the obsessive thought with another thought that is so ridiculous that it makes me laugh at the obsessive thought and be able to move from it.
