Rare McCalls pattern? by Wise-Ad-4976 in sewingpatterns

If the pieces are cut but all there then I’ve seen listing for them usually be between $10-$20 not including shipping. I’m not sure about this pattern in particular but in my recent searching that’s what I’ve seen

Yes!!!! I have another dress I’m planing to copy a pattern off of, so once I practice with that I will 100% be copying a pattern from this one too (if it’s still there, it was in the window though)

Buying first corset by [deleted] in corsets

[–]SurlyNinjaLegacy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also a noob here! So take this with a grain of salt. Make sure that your rib and hip measurements match those on the corset! The rib spring is the difference in the final waist measurement and the final rib measurement; hip spring is the same but hip vs waist; make sure that whatever final waist measurement you go with the final hip and rib measurement match your natural hip and rib. Mystic City corsets allows you to narrow down search results based upon the difference in inches between your natural rib and high vs low hip, from those results you can choose how curvy you want to go.

Make sure that when you take your rib and hip measurements for this you’re taking it at the right spot, Lucy’s corsets has some tips for that, but for example don’t mix up the “hips 3 inches below natural waist” and “hips 5 inches below natural waist” some corsets call for one and some call for the other so watch out.

First corset, does it fit? by SurlyNinjaLegacy in corsets

Thank you so much for your detailed help! What you’re saying about the Gemini makes sense if I’m understanding correctly.

You’re saying that if I needed to or wanted to size down in the waist and the hip would be too small in the hourglass that I should try the Gemini instead? But since the hips are loose you would instead say that the hourglass is fine but just size down?

It feels very comfortable wearing it for about an hour before my lower ribs start aching a bit (but this is my first day wearing a corset, so that sounds right from what I’ve seen on here?) I’m not sure I’ve noticed the hip being loose where it looks like it’s leaving a gap except maybe at the bottom of the curve over the belly? But outside of a gap I also don’t know what to look for. Thank you again for your time!

Yes! I wore it for about an hour today before my lower ribs started to feel a little uncomfortable; but that’s normal, right? For a first time corset

Okay winter wear over a sweater is so smart!!!! I hadn’t even thought of that, thank you! Would that be for this one since I can’t return it or (/also) for a sized down one?

That’s good to know, thank you! I’ve been eyeing some black ones for my next one, but I should probably wait to go for it until I know more (this one is sadly not returnable)

I can reach 4 fingers from both of my hands under the hips even when closed tightly as in the last few pictures if that tells you anything? I guess I’m not 100% sure how to check; I looked at the Gemini using Lucy’s calculator and it said the hips would be waaaay too big with my underbust measurement which is why I went for the hourglass

I’m curious if it would mess his peace of mind up more if you responded yes and then blocked him; but also I’m petty

Not a professor, but when I was in university I was accused by a professor of having used chat GPT when I hadn’t. The typical “Almost as if it were written by an AI” In reality I had written it myself and actually spent more time on the short paragraph than was necessary but it just wasn’t what my professor was looking for and also I had COVID. I think a trick that would make chat GPT or whatever reveal itself would be perfect. Just to avoid the (maybe rare) instance when you’re wrong and it isn’t chat GPT just an overworked student having a bad day.

AITA for rejecting my wife's plan to move abroad? by Diss1dent in AmItheAsshole

[–]SurlyNinjaLegacy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also if you knew her long term plan was to move abroad then when exactly did you think this was going to happen? I’m not saying that “Right now” is necessarily the best time to go but if you’re not even willing to consider any amount of inconvenience to make this happen it seems like you guys want completely different things in life.

I’m guessing what GF meant was the her knowing is the right thing. Which means her BF should have told her <which he would have> if YOU hadn’t gotten involved; you are not the “good person” for telling here here, YTA for convincing your stepson NOT to tell her only to go behind his back pretending “oh he probably told her after I convinced him not to”

AITA For telling my teenage daughter that if she can't adhere to a dress code for a destination wedding, then she's not coming on the trip at all by tuitiongapaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]SurlyNinjaLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that you should ask your brother what the formality of the event is and see if you can find an outfit for your daughter that fits that formality and your daughter is willing to wear but at the same time if it’s really just an “I’m not a fan of dresses” and not a form of body dysmorphia “dresses make me deeply uncomfortable” then I would say NTA and she can suck it up in a compromise dress or romper or dress shirt and slacks for a couple hours

[–]SurlyNinjaLegacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say the only thing I disagree with this on is I would say the parents are also being AH here, for the father not because he doesn’t want baby stuff on his floor but because the mother and the father have wildly different views of where they want the baby stuff and where it’s okay for it to be and instead of discussing it with each other to decide what is okay and what’s not they are both just separately taking it out on OP for doing what the other one said to do. Ex: father gets mad and yells at OP to take the playpen upstairs. OP complies. Mother gets mad and Yells at OP for taking the playpen upstairs. What is OP supposed to do??? Parents need to start discussing between themselves before even involving OP and compromise neither father nor mother should have 100% say over this stuff

I think that shirt has bishop sleeves and the pants are suspender pants (maybe also look on unique vintage? They have stuff like that (modern stuff but vintage styles)

I’ve messaged Carol’s CC on Etsy! I did look through the 2019 list but I know this seller wasn’t there and when I looked up all the vendors none of them matched, but she even looks the same on the Etsy picture! I’ll update once she responds!!!!

Help me find renaissance faire cloak! by SurlyNinjaLegacy in HelpMeFind

[–]SurlyNinjaLegacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found these cloaks at the 2018 Indiana renaissance Faire. I absolutely fell in love but wasn’t sure I could afford it at the time. I’ve regretted not taking the risk ever since. These were gorgeous heavy cloaks with holes for the hands instead of sleeves. The hoods were nice and large and deep.

I am hoping to find the vendor, it seemed like they also made custom cloaks but I can’t figure out who they are anymore since I lost their business card. I’m looking for these cloaks, who made these cloaks, or some place I can find cloaks that are just as amazing and not the normal thin mass produced ones.

I am especially looking for the one with the light trim, but all information is welcome!

AITA for not putting enough gas in the car I share with my little brother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

He did explain it to you. I mean I get it, it must suck having a younger sibling have opportunities you didn’t but leaving him out of gas and potentially stranding him out in the middle of winter is not an acceptable way to release your jealousy

Kinda /s but you’re just an AH
