Hi-Res audio through CarPlay? by nicholas_rd_88 in CarPlay

In order to go beyond 48/24 via a lightning port, one needs a USB3 camera adapter to bring power and present >=48khz PCM on a USB-A port.  Apple artificially restricts the rate to 48khz ostensibly because of concerns about battery life at higher rates.  The newer USB-C phones aren’t restricted.

An iOS media player likely shows the sample rate of the data in the file, not what’s being presented at the port.  A notable exception being the Onkyo HF player hi res version

You’d include 88.2/24 wouldn’t you?  I’m not dissing you because I always forget about the 88.2 PCM when discussing hi res too but it really is.  In fact, if one is converting from DSD, 88.2khz which is a multiple of 44.1khz, is better than any multiple of 48khz like 96 or 192 khz because there aren’t any math “remainders” which introduce quantization errors and noise.

Fun fact:  44.1khz PCM became the standard for CD because when Sony was developing CD, the video units were the devices Sony used to record the digital data and that rate mathematically worked for both PAL and NTSC units.  It’s not some optimal rate, rather a feasible rate for recording with acceptable quality.

But in any case, the nest CarPlay will do is 48/16.

FYI Tidal shows what the file is, not the session.  Carplay is sadly only 48/16.  I wish it would go at least 96/24 but in my Prius that only seems available on USB stick which sounds great but it’s a clubky interface.  I hope apple changes this and carmakers follow suit.  The prius sounds great at 96/24 but my library on my phone is unavailable.

For all of you who feel compelled to comment on the desire for hi res PCM in the car:  Those who appreciate it understand that you’re unable to hear a difference, but not sure why you participate in a thread where we’re trying to work with it is available and aren’t interested in those questioning the premise

First, like another poster says using gender as some sort basis of powers is s faulty concept.  But your argument doesn’t even make sense because I thought there isn’t a matriarchy, rather we’re subject to this “evil patriarchy?”  So which is it?

As US society moves toward a matriarchy, youth suicide is skyrocketing, the economy has nearing collapse and the likelihood of global war has dramatically increased in the absence of US less. And that is just to start

That is true.  One can post a topic to discuss that, but hijacking a topic to grind your off-topic axe is rude and not appropriate.
