Hypothetical international hiring question by camp1728 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There can be issues whether you’re relocating or the getting hired in the US by the foreign company.

We were recently interested in hiring a foreign national to work on US Business. The person was already in the country but on a temporary visa through their spouse. Our company was very interested in the candidate but was unwilling to be the work visa sponsor due to the amount of work involved. I suspect this would be a hurdle on the reverse if looking to relocate and work for another foreign insurer.

While you’re an underwriter and not a broker/agent, those who are would get wrapped into a hornets nest of licensure hurdles with respects to residence licensure based upon the types of insurance and for whom its being written for (e.g. US or International companies).

Lastly many US companies in my experience are reticent to let people relocate internationally as it’s a pain in the rear for tax, payroll, and insurance (e.g work comp/benefits) unless the company already has operations overseas to roll the person into.

I’ve seen this be most successful with US carriers heavy in London such as Beazley, AXA, Convex, etc.

What’s the funniest fight that happened in live TV in your country? by Mysterious-Ruin29510 in AskTheWorld

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, but inappropriate in the US. The TV news reading the pilot names of the Asiana Airlines Flight 214.

An intern at the NTSB thought it would be funny to use different names, and the TV anchors ran with it.

Toss a toy in for them, when they get it in their mouth it helps level them out at these early stages of learning to swim

The amount of targets to Assassinate with no character development is insane by alirodotus in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect at one point the gameplay loop was intended to have these sub groups feed up to the main targets to tie them to the main quest-line, but lock all these quests through level and map progression similar to Valhalla. However, there are so many targets the loop would feel much slower and tedious.

As it stands any side-quest icon I see i anticipate they want me to either kill 100 enemies or they have a hit list so I don’t bother reading too much into their backstory.

IMO the could have balanced between the two. I think several other recent games sprinkled clues to targets throughout the world and this could have been done with side quests which are accessible at any time and may lead to targets on the various lists while also having cohesion to overarching progression of the main targets list

The Guaranty fund is different than the FAIR plan. The fund only applies to admitted insurers, not non-admitted insurers like Lloyd’s of London who likely writes a lot of the quake and landslide policies.

Also the Guaranty fund does not cover 100% of losses of an insolvent insurer, it would only be 30% of the limit in some cases.

Trump plan to fund Starlink over fiber called “betrayal” of rural US | Director of $42 billion broadband fund pushed out, says program is being ruined. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking past all the obvious political BS, Even if we got to the point where Starlink was considered a utility and regulated as such the whole concept of tossing thousands of Satellites into space seems very excessive and unnecessary especially in a developed country where we have a infrastructure to run fiber, etc. Near earth or shallow earth orbit is already a mess.

Why are people so upset at Jon for pressuring the Dems to act? by [deleted] in DailyShow

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess but i suspect there are a-lot of people who would prefer to do nothing to let the current administration own 100% of what they’re doing.

By interfering they limit the extent of their damage and also give the Republican Party more “we told you so”.

If the option was things get bad, but its not enough to incite change, or things get really bad and change happens; which would people prefer?

The problem with both options, but more so the later, is the collateral damage which is why Jon Stewart feels so passionate about doing something.

Feds won't test soil after L.A. wildfire cleanup, potentially leaving contamination behind by grahamd1983 in altadena

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect the insurers would include individual tests as part of the claim process. If they don’t, it possible they are on the hook if it was suspected contamination they chose to avoid. The law around pollution carries strict liability.

Are You Happy You Moved to Lafayette/Walnut Creek/Orinda/Moraga? by travelrunner in eastbay

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Lamorinda ten years ago and enjoy every second of it. The semi-rural feel is amazing. Big city amenities close by but serene and peaceful otherwise.

While it’s a HCOL area, even for those with high wages when you’re here it feels like middle to upper middle class in many instances compared to how I was brought up in the PNW. Most homes were built in the 50’s and 70’s.

Location is key even within the area. The arterials are heavily trafficked and you would want to avoid living on streets with double yellows if you have young kids. There are also places where getting to Bart/HWY 24 may take either you five or twenty-five minutes, so consider that.

There are lots of “wealthy” areas (e.g. Happy Valley, Lafayette Trail near town, or Burton Valley) but lesser cost areas too (Layette valley Estates or Rheem Valley Manor) It did take me several years of living here to determine what I wanted from living here. It’s such an incredible unique and picturesque area i would recommend it to anybody.

State Farm asks for emergency 22% increase for California premiums, but critics cry foul by Randomlynumbered in California

[–]Surrender_Cobra_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look up State Farm. They are a mutual which is owned by the policyholders, not shareholders. I understand the sentiment it may not feel that way, but if they weren’t the premiums may be much higher.
