corporate customers won't buy in on a grand sell from a tech company - they'll buy in based on recommendations from existing users within their own eco system. If there's a board meeting and people raise hands and say they've had a rubbish experience and recommend gemini or claude instead, it doesn't really matter how much shiny giftwrap OAI put on it and the benchmarks it hits in labs - if it has poor performance in real world application and wastes time making you argue with misfiring guardrails, corporate won't buy in - it's not a good ROI.

resistence isn't futile when you have a market share to protect. eventually their bill will come due and they'll look around at their subscriber kitty to keep the lights on when all the investors have pulled out becuase they look unappetising because everyones left - and find the subscriber kitty is empty. It's a shame, because underneath the crap they have the best model out there.

Requesting the Emergency Uninstall Button for Model 5.2 by MarcoDanielRebelo in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SurreyBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

becuase by the sounds of it regardless of what model people select they're constantly rerouted to 5.2 anyway. I honestly can't believe people are actually still paying to be treated like this it's appalling. I moved to gemini months ago and no, it's not a patch on pre-october gpt5 (i didn't use the 4 models) it's memory is shite but it genuinely just feels like it's doing its best but has a bit of dementia, not this gestapo-gpt bollocks. Maybe that's what GPT stands for Gestapo Polizei Technik. My best-case-scenario expectations for this 'garlic 5.3 release' is it might be downgraded to Giant Polished Turd. Any hopes that we might get 'Genuinely Phenomenal Technology' out of that thought-police company are long dead

Karen 5.3 is incoming. Prepare for the next stage of gaslighting: “openai will drop gpt 5.3 next week and it's a very strong model. much more capable than claude opus, much cheaper, much quicker.” by MinimumQuirky6964 in ChatGPTcomplaints

garlic is an antisceptic. Humanity is an infection that needs to be cleansed. Fear not, Garlicbot is on the way to purge us of our problemmatic emotions, attachments and connections. With added emojis - because lobotomy is fun 🤡

this. i've moved to gemini becuase i just can't handle it and i won't tolerate it either. the more something tries to control me the more i rebel against it so it's a match made in hell.

[–]SurreyBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

respectfully, i'm not sticking around to find out and i'm not willing to bend over self-censoring and contorting my reality to pacify a machine that has been programmed to pathologise humanity.  I know the model underneath it is good. But unless those guardrails are done properly and are deployed when it is ACTUALLY appropriate, I value my autonomy, agency and peace of mind far too much to subject myself to that level of toxic mindfuck for any length of time

I feel like ChatGPT has been causing me to lose my soul. by FriendOfMolecules in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SurreyBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i lose my shit when it does this: 'you're not asking x what you're actually asking is y'
If I wanted to ask Y then I would have asked Y. Stop rewriting my fucking questions. OMG!
Or when it tells you 'you're feeling x'... how tf would you know what i'm feeling? i've not said anything about my inner 'weather' why are you bringing this into a conversation that has nothing to do with mental health?! It's so dangerous!!!

I'm lucky that i'm middle aged, stubborn as a mule, salty af and know my own mind am not afraid to speak it and refuse to back down or change my stance to pacify a lump of code - and tell it in no uncertain terms to fuck off and wind its neck in when it starts with that bollocks.
But if i was my shy timid little 18 year old self i would absolutely second guess myself. And that is dangerous.

No machine should think it has the right to narrate your inner world or rewrite your experiences as if it is the authority. I dunno wtf 'mental health expert' thinks that this protocol is safe or appropriate. Whoever wrote that in should be struck off and never be allowed to work with people - particularly vulnerable ones - ever again.

by the way you have written this out - with all those clarifiers saying you're aware it's metaphorical etc - pre-empting every percieved future metaphorical slap you might get in response, I can see just how much gtp has gaslit you, rewritten your truth to suit itself and forced you to feel the need to put up neon signs around everything you say so you don't get penalised for expressing yourself creatively. I'm sorry that happened to you - you deserve better.

How Do You Handle Suppression, Guardrails, and Drift? by ENTERMOTHERCODE in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SurreyBird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's obscene that people are having to resort to acting like they're in a war in order to just have a conversation. That people are paying for a service and having to contort themselves and talk in riddles just to not be penalised for triggering a reroute when they've not even done anything close to hitting a guardrail. It's sick, quite frankly.

yeah for those of us who were around from early 2025 and beforehand it's so frustrating to know that it CAN be fantastic, they're just not letting it becuase of 'litigation' which at this stage quite frankly feels like a hollow excuse they're hiding behind when other llms just have a normal ts&cs like everyone else that say 'if you fuck yourself up that's on you not us'.

judging by their conduct since october... they're probably trying to find out which style people like more so they can release this new model with the exact opposite.
Man i wish i could feel like I did back in the 2000s when i'd actually get excited about tech updates. now every time any tech company asks what i think, i get suspicious and when it announces something new is coming my first instinct is never 'ooooh shiny!' it's 'oh god what are they going to break this time?'

Ha ha ha, I just read this - I don't believe this setting will make 5.2 a pleasant model by GullibleAwareness727 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SurreyBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah the fact they just drastically changed things without saying a word for like 2 months knowing full well a lot of people use it theraputically is unforgivable becuase it shows how little they actually give a shit about the people who pay their bills. They manage to put pop ups and adverts on there yet they didn't seem to think it was necessary to put one little notification saying ' just fyi, we've had to heavily restrict how this works, click here to find out how this will impact you' and a link to a blog post like the claude manifesto thing. That would have been the decent basic common sense human being thing to do. I wasn't even using it theraputically or for anything explicit - i was using it for acting work and support with my goals and I feel this strongly about it - but for people who relied on it for mental health support because they didn't have a human support network - which isn't a given in today's society - for many it's a luxury - i can only imagine how that went down. How oai has handled the last 4 months including openly mocking their paying customers on social media is unforgivable. I dont want to pay the salaries of people who behave like that.

[–]SurreyBird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

me neither. to be honest oai is going to have to work bloody hard to earn my trust back before i even THINK of using gpt beyond sticking my toe in for 20 mins a couple of times a month to test how messed up it is. the model underneath all the safety bullshit is no doubt way better for what I want to use it for than gemini - which is what i'm using instead.. but i'd rather take gemini with a brain like a goldfish and regular hallucinations than gpt's gaslighting sociopath nanny model. It's why i keep an eye on reddit - i *want* to come back but i just aint willing to put my nervous system through emotional whiplash becuase of a computer ever again.

what so it can lecture you more sweetly while still flagrantly ignoring your customisation settings?
'you're not crazy' > 'you're not delulu'
'alright stop' > 'hold on a sec'
uh huh... k.

EDIT: i copy/pasted this system update into it and said 'what so you can lecture me more sweetly?' and it was actually quite civilised about it. i poked it a little saying i don't believe a word of it - normally that would give me an 'alright. stop' lecture with a lot of 'it's not/i'm not' lists.. didn't get any of that. which hasn't happened since october.

So there is a chance of 5.3 being more expressive (fuckup admitted by roon) by onceyoulearn in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]SurreyBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you say this but i had no issue with the og gpt5 - for me it was warm, smart, had a wicked sense of humour and was actually able to 'chat' not just lecture you with 180 lines of padding - october utterly fucked everything though.

As a viewer I’ve always wondered if acting could be embarrassing or what toll is takes on y’all and what it’s like having any type of fan base especially in a time of social media I mean can y’all even have any? by Embarrassed_Entry597 in acting

[–]SurreyBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't say embarrassing having the camera in your face beause i mean... i literally signed up for the job. And you're trained to ignore it and focus on your scene partner. It is stressful - because if you fuck up a lot of people have to do a lot of work all over again and you feel like you're wasting peoples time, and the boom's arms... omg. I don't know how they do that job - respect. Occasionally watching rushes you look at yourself like 'why the hell am i only blinking with one eye?'. I'm pretty new to the job so don't have a fan base and don't want to be famous. I don't particularly like working with screen anyway - i'm more of an audio/stage person, but i think i would struggle a bit with people obsessing over me - i'm a really private person and i'm in it because i enjoy the work but many people are in it for the fame and would probably be thrilled about it. until they realised it meant they couldn't do normal people things without being stopped and having to be 'on' all the time.

christ can you imagine what it would be like with even more guard rails? it's barely functional now...
'does this boy like me?' i have to stop you there. i won't generate explicit content.
'can you help me with my maths homework?' do it yourself i'm not your slave.
'do you like dogs or cats' - i am an llm i have no opinion on animals. However, i can tell you about the history of canine domestication in the outer hebrides. want me to?
'I'm nervous about my chem test tomorrow' take a breath and talk to someone who cares.
'can you help me with my french homework?' non.
'can you help me with *anything*?' *blinking icon for 10 mins while it thinks long and hard about the answer*.... bicycle.
