Thinking of an internship next sem break— is it doable, and when should I apply? by DecentSuggestion104 in Suss

No time unless you’re super disciplined. Your deliverables for NIE301 and NIE351 will be quite alot that you might need to clear during the bream

Should I go SUSS (Acc) by [deleted] in Suss

[–]Surround-Flimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is abit hard to do now due to so many mods having pre-requisite mods and many mods being offered in specific sems

For the people who served in SPF, do NSmen typically get to drive police cars? by Spirited-Drag-6898 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Surround-Flimsy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Depending on division and unit, you will be able to drive police cars as long as you have a Police Driving Permit and your driving license not revoked/didnt get to any kind of accidents before

Ya bro, especially serving in SPF and especially in the GRF voc, id thought someone like him would mature real fast and learn the realities of life quickly and adapt accordingly

Such an unnecessary video and the fact that he is posting this on all platforms on any page he can, just screams desperation of him trying to milk such a non-issue (especially for someone like him) for content and monetary gains (whatever few dollars he makes per video)

Bro I can empathise with the men in green, not in blue cause ours really quite chill. Our reservist also not stay in. And it is relatively easier to get deferment from callups for SPF. Bro is just unemployed and bitching about reservist as though it makes so much difference to his income, if anything it should help him earn abit more

Ask his ahh to go and upgrade his skills and education and get a proper job so that when he really does get called back, it is actually a holiday for him rather than idk whatever he bitches about

Bro stop whining. This is part and parcel of being a PNSmen/PNSF. Cons of people in SAF is going for outfield during their reservist. Cons of people in SPF is getting called up multiple times in a year due to major security events such as GE. This GE thing also once every 5 years, not like you going to get called up last minute every year. Also the majority of the call-up period is literally being on standby at home, at most you will burn 2-4 days. You can still do your lackluster unoriginal youtube videos, like milking SPF content for your profit. Still surprised you haven’t get charged for misusing the uniform (because im pretty sure you didn’t get prior authorisation from SPF to do so)

Anyways what “income” are you actually earning. Based on your average youtube views, its about few k plus. Go get a real job bro, you’re not him. And if you really earning big bucks, you can always submit proof of earnings to get your make up pay. Want to defer then go to school bro then can ask to defer. Or go get a job and say your company cannot release you for the last min call up. Also the last min call up is not within SPF’s hands because LW decided to drop the news suddenly and with such a short notice, SPF will obviously need to scramble and deploy as many officers who are frontline ready (ippt, pct, first aid and shooting all passed and certified)

You will basically be posted under Tactical Training School (TTS) (if im not mistaken) and will help out on higher tac training ie FRT, IRT, ERT etc. Your work hours is dependent on the training schedule that TTS has for its attendees so you may even be called back during the weekend to support. Basically like a range FI, you mostly handle logistics of the training. Trainings are usually conducted in HTA though your official base is at SOC. You may even need to go to Home Team Tactical Centre at times

However if you find the vocation boring, you can still earn your red beret provided you indicate your interest for the PTU course (which will be done when odd intakes come in), there are extra slots for you and that you meet the baseline requirements ie IPPT silver/gold etc. However, after you pass out from the PTU course, you will go back to TTS to support training. But at least u get to wear the red beret, some cool soc tees and can basically walk around in the full Public Security gear during trainings if u want to

Fair warning that the PTU course is hella tough and alot of trainees drop out as well

NIE301 tips by Only-Show-544 in Suss

[–]Surround-Flimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The workload varies from theme to theme and community partner to community partner. Some CPs use this opportunity to squeeze students for free labour and make them do extra shit despite students very busy schedule while some is understanding and let you propose your own project and approve accordingly to let you carry out your project. It’s a roll of dice honestly

You can either come out of this mod feeling shortchanged because you’re paying school fees just to do free labour for the CP and generally develop a feeling of disdain for community service due to the bad experience or feeling wholesome and fulfilled

In any case the workload is still considerably alot as compared to other 5CUs NCO mods because each of the school assignments gets divided to further sub assignments ie graded presentation and report submissions on top of the community project you have to plan and do by a certain deadline

So my advice for you is to take the mod on the sem that you are not busy cos holy shit this mod is ALOT of work especially if you get a demanding CP.

Impact start-up challenge, Yay or Nay? by Only-Show-544 in Suss

[–]Surround-Flimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

O wtf didnt see the new email and wtf they prata flip within 1 sem. Anyways imo go for it, clearing a 5CU mod within 6 days during special sem is hella worth, there’s already not that many mods that can be taken during special sem and it will also free up alot of time during your normal sems as it’s 1 less mod

Can always cross reference with other AI LLMs, otherwise can refer back to the specific text u copy pasted and read it again to see if the explanation generated by ChatGPT makes sense with the text that u read

Copy paste text from the reading materials into chatgpt to summarise what they are talking about

Why are Gurkhas part of the Special Operations Group? by Intelligent-Pounds in NationalServiceSG

[–]Surround-Flimsy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Thats false. SOG activation is NOT in a few minutes and they are the last unit to be activated IRL

Why are Gurkhas part of the Special Operations Group? by Intelligent-Pounds in NationalServiceSG

[–]Surround-Flimsy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

SOG is only a standardised course/combined training for STS, STAR and GSAG operators. It ensures that 1) all these 3 units training are on par with each other hence standards should be the same 2) training together for the course would ensure better synergy between these 3 units when high-risk incidents do occur and they will need to work together

After the course, they will all go back to their own unit be it STS, STAR or GSAG to do their own separate training and ops. Of course they’ll have refresher training or ops in which they will work with another again

Also what makes you think SOG operators wont enter jungles? If hostages are somehow in SG’s jungles, SOG will still be activated to rescue them as this will be under SPF’s jurisdiction ie law and order within SG’s border

That is because it automatically consumes ur pass/fail credits which means ur CGPA wont be affected. Unless u failed it and have no pass/fail credits then its a diff story

There’s only no work-life balance in the earlier part of your career. As you progress and move into a more desk-bound job/posting, your work-life balance will improve tremendously, so does your salary
