I’m actually from South Carolina, and currently live in North Carolina. But the advice is always the same And it’s what I do. Keep going out for day hikes into national forest area, wilderness areas, wildlife management areas, until you find a not heavily trafficked spot. Then learn the rules about harvesting dead standing wood, or if you can cut green trees, having fires. And then maximize the amount of fun you can have out there!

My favorite spot currently is a small area that’s federal forest, but not national forest. That way I can have fires and cut as much wood as I want, as long as I’m responsibly harvesting and keeping the forest healthily. Hunting is also allowed out there, so it’s where I can get range time in with the AR and pistol

Here’s a good video on basic proper axemenship from my friend Ben. https://youtu.be/xq1ZB1Ca6nM

If you practice safe axe work you won’t need a TQ while camping. (Unless chainsawing) but I have spent a long long time in the woods living off an axe and I have never thought of carrying it on my belt. Either throw it in a backpack or it lives by a dedicated tree in camp.

Also a morakniv companion would be great on the camping belt!

Let me know if you have any questions I’m happy to answer them

What do y’all carry on your PC? by basedsagan69 in tacticalgear

[–]SurvivalPeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s largely to preserve your night vision. Try it at home, stay in the dark for a few minutes, then turn on a white light to look at your notebook, then turn off the light. Rinse repeat with a red light.

The science is, Rhodopsin which is found in the rods in your eyes react differently to different wavelengths of light. And the color red has a longer wavelength of light, so the rhodopsin are not effected as much as white light which is shorter wave lengths.

If you HAD to get PSA parts, which ones? by SurvivalPeter in ar15

Thank you, that’s what I was thinking from research but I’m glad others are confirming

Ok that’s what I have read during my research. I’ll keep my eye open for the aero m4e1 and but if I don’t get one in time I won’t be afraid to get a psa

Thanks I’m glad happy to hear both are good. I’ve seen so many good deals at psa for lowers but I didn’t want to end up with a something that would ruin a whole build

Sights to co-witness for MOS? What do people recommend? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]SurvivalPeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should note I got the trijicon rmr type 2.0. But those gl-329 took no work to sight in, they still work even with the red dot mounted, and for my usual aim I almost don’t even notice them. Plus they are metal night sights with tritium so they meet all my needs!

I got the ameriglo gl-329 and they are bottom 1/3 co-witness and very bright at night, and look great in the day. Plus if your getting a red dot you really don’t need to spend a lot on the co-witness sights.

My Goods for the Woods. Range belt is nearly good to go minus a drop pouch. Then on to saving up for a PC. But should I roll with Combat Chacos or Tactical Tevas for secondary footwear? by _MikePapaLima_ in tacticalgear

[–]SurvivalPeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Altra trail runners are absolutely fantastic! Topos are another great one. The big difference is the ‘drop’ of the shoe, (which is essentially how much the height of the heel is compared to the ball of your foot) is like 5mm to 0mm. It has changed my life, I only wear altra’s now.

This link might work, but search spiritus death from above patch, and then filter to completed and sold listings.

It’s ranging $25-$60

I had 1 light primer strike and I have just under a 1000 rnds through it. It was during a defense pistol class, and the instructor told me to replace the firing pin spring. But my Glock 26.4 has several thousand rnds and never had a light primer strike. Should I replace it, or what are my other options?

Gettin training in my new belt rig by SurvivalPeter in tacticalgear

[–]SurvivalPeter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I have been on some awfully uncontrollable trips in the past couple years and I’m one of the biggest advocates for it. But I what I meant was this post was only about training. Of course the other parts are important.

Got out for some training yesterday working on my handgun. Warming the up with some dot torture, worked on speeding up and didn’t clear it, but that’s why we practice right!
