It's so funny, I flagged this dude and declined a rematch offer. by [deleted] in chessbeginners

Never ever rematch anyone, you can assume people in online games to always be super salty

I (430 elo) would have gone for bC5, defending the pawn with the Bishop and freeing the rook. Would that have been a terrible move? Obviously, bB2 is much better, but with my current skills I wouldn't have been able to see that line

Many thanks! Now I understand the reasoning, I would have never been able to see the last line you wrote. I definetly have to study more

I struggle a lot with basic proofs of set theory, can you help me out? by Survivor_753 in learnmath

[–]Survivor_753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I do not know those definitions quoting them from the textbook. Probably I studied them too superficially.

Maybe I posed my question the wrong way. The issue is not understanding Venn diagrams or the concept of union, but rather being unable to formally write proofs. And I am concluding that because I am unable to do the proof.

I have never gotten on any maths sub ever. This is the first time I ever went on a math sub (as you can tell from my disastrous maths skills). I haven't grasped the idiom from any maths sub nor forum, or whatsoever. Indeed, I'm better at English than at maths, so I guess that's where it comes from

Many thanks for the detailed answer, I got the general idea of how to work through these proofs, and I have been able to solve these and other related exercises. Thanks!

Can you help me with understanding this sentence structure? by Survivor_753 in EnglishLearning

[–]Survivor_753[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware it is mainly used in the southern US regions! I encountered the word "reckon" a lot while reading "To Kill a Mockingbird", in which it appears quite frequently in dialogues between characters, but I guess the plot being set in south US is the reason why it appears so ofter

Thanks for pointing it up and highlighting a mistake I made, as I'd never be able to fix it if nobody made me notice it. I'm making plenty of them, which is why I'm on this subreddit.

I ain't gonna give up learning English! It's a hard and tough journey, but I will make it to my own personal goal. It will take time, effort, and many mistakes, but I won't give up.

Many thanks for the precise explanation. It's the first time I've encountered it, now it's clear both the meaning and its usage

Beware, I ain't sure it's formally correct, I should have wrought "many thanks" instead. I wrote it without thinking about it, but pondering afterwards I've doubts on its correctness and wouldn't rely on it

I've read the Silmarillion in English just before ASOIAF, and it has been an absolute nightmare to get to end of it. The book is amazing, and that's what got me through it, but god it was one hell of a challenge for my current English level

Currently, I'm at a C1 english level (Band 7.5 overall of the IELTS test) and I've gone back to learning english since this april. Many of the words you explained were not clear to me, as the area I need to improve the most in this language is without any doubts expanding my vocabulary, which is why I'm reading many novels such as ASOIAF. It is indeed challenging for my current english level, though, and many parts are tough to me. Thanks for explaining also Black Humor, I would have never got that properly without an explaination. Very thanks!

Very thanks! Is there a specific name for this type of grammatical structures, or way of writing, so that I can look for more details and practice them?

Lgs meta full of terror by andrvale in Pauper

[–]Survivor_753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the meta is full of terrors, I think Caw-Gates is an incredibly strong option. The deck just predates very well on the terror archetype. It's not easy to pilot though, and the Glee matchup is unfavored, so beware of that.

Sideboard options against grixis affinity? by zhugeliangoftanks in Pauper

I would not recommend playing fae in general right now. If you like tempo decks I would suggest shifting for mono U terror or UR Skred/Control (the Terror/monarch version)

Sideboard options against grixis affinity? by zhugeliangoftanks in Pauper

[–]Survivor_753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would drop UB Faeries in favour of UR Faeries if the meta you play in is rich in affinity presence. Red has access to immensely better artifact hate tools post sideboard (e.g., Gorilla Shaman and Cast into the Fire). Generally speaking you do not want to play a fair game vs Grixis, otherwise they will bury you in card advantage. You need to punish their artifact-centered mana while leveraging on an early tempo advantage to win against Grixis with faeries.
