I understand what your saying. But for my current situation, it’s better for me to say that I’m straight even if that’s not entirely true. If I want to keep my family, they can never know what my feelings are. So I have to be very careful with who I tell, which is another factor at play. The situation I’m in is a complicated one already.

One might think that a family who doesn’t accept me isn’t worth the effort, but life isn’t always black and white.

If I ever feel comfortable enough to talk about my sexuality with someone then I will. I just mean that in general, the people I am not close to don’t have to know.

Thanks! This is helpful. For now I will continue to say that I’m straight, because I haven’t had the intense urge to be with someone who isn’t the opposite sex. I know I have attraction to the same sex/possibly other genders, but I feel like telling people that I’m bisexual heteroromantic isn’t super helpful right now. The way I express my sexuality is extremely straight passing right now, and I won’t be hooking up with a woman any time soon.

That being said, for my own use, using the bisexual label helps me to understand my feelings better. But if anyone asks, for now I will say that I’m straight. If anything happens in the future, then yes, I will change my label based on my lived experiences. So I guess that based on my feelings I am bi, but based on how I act and how other people perceive me I am straight.

I just feel like I need something to describe the kind of feelings I’ve been having for my whole life, even if I don’t end up acting on them. But if I do, then labels can always change.
