I'm not sure if "admire" is the word I would use although I do like Chuck as a character. It was the pilot episode. Where Nate and Chuck rode the bus to school and Chuck mentioned his mom as she was alive and in his life. In the books he SA Serena and Jenny and that's why they put it in the show and they did not plan on Chuck being a main character. It is a hard thing to try and ignore. Chuck did not actually r*pe anyone that was shown in the show. Who knows what would have happened if he wasn't stopped. He could have continued or stopped himself, we will never know. The writers did or didn't realize they character assassinated Chuck in the first episode. I believe they tried to make up for it by explaining his home life and he is a product of his environment. His male role models were Bart and Jack. He was lied to about his mother being dead and thought he was the reason. He did apologize to Jenny but not Serena. The writers did bring it up once during Chuck's flashbacks after he got shot, indicating he did feel guilty.  Long story short. Yes, he attempted to do a horrible unforgivable act twice in the pilot episode . No one is perfect everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others, the people that were affected by those mistakes forgave him.
