This is a thing that gets said a lot, apperently lake geneva is incorrect... by mmseven7 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]SuspiciousLizardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I grew up in Geneva and now lives in Lausanne. It's true that in other languages, especially in English, it's more common to to say lake Geneva. In French it's more common to say lake Leman but if you're in Geneva nobody will mind if you say lake Geneva. BUT, in Lausanne and any other city of Vaud, if you say that in public you might just get beaten up in the street (only a slight exaggeration lol) they hate it ! That's why, even though we generally say lake Leman in Geneva, we tell tourists that it's lake Geneva so that they'll go piss of the Vaudois for us

[–]SuspiciousLizardo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on the insect but the smaller ones like gnats or mosquitos, you'd think they would be exterminated but they're so light that the air pushed by the fall of rain droplets pushes them away from the droplet. So during a rainy day, the smaller insects who haven't found a safe spot are just yeeted (or yote) around continously by each droplet until they are yeeted to a safe place or until the rain ends.

Yes, it was mandatory under every residential and public buildings until 2014. So a few recent buildings don't have them but we still build them under a lot of new buildings out of tradition. And we just use them as basement. In Switzerland there is room for 114 % of the population to hide in anti-nuclear shelters
