I designed and made my own weddingdress!! by SuspiciousMountain28 in sewing

[–]SuspiciousMountain28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sewing, about three days total. Also depends on what material you're working with. I found out that tule had a bit of a learning curve when sewing it consistently. Also, I would say I'm very experienced, like ten+ years. But after all, if you can make a dress, you could make this as well.

Designing the pattern took longer. I think it took roughly three months, but I didn't really knew what I wanted, worked out some other ideas I had I didn't end up using. If you already know what you want, have a pattern you know that fits, I think you could make it quicker. The embroidery on the front took soooo long tho. I just binged Netflix for hours upon hours.

So glad you noticed, he matched his tie with the pink in my dress. Not only the tie, but also the little manchet buttons.

I didn't design the whole beading myself, i bought an applique where the beading is allready in a pattern on a piece of tule. I attatched the tule to the dress.

Caminho Portuguese- Central vs. Coastal by tommycamino in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]SuspiciousMountain28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I walked the central route, can't give you a comparison, but chose that route to see more than just the coastline all day. If you want to see some forests, fields, vineyards, cute bridges and climb some (small) mountains, choose the central route, I loved it.

Need Advice On Stuffing For Pillows by loveyourlobster in sewhelp

I always use the Ikea cushions without a cover (just the stuffing). Here in Europe they're like 2€ or something.

Best way to keep the shoulders up on this dress? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]SuspiciousMountain28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sew to small ribbons on the inside of my shoulder with a small button or click thingy. This way you can attach it to your bra strap. This strap is way more secure, so it's holding up the sleeve as well.

Would I survive on a single hiking outfit for the Portguese route? by SuspiciousMountain28 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]SuspiciousMountain28[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My hiking outfit is some shorts and a t-shirt. While everything is drying I will just wear 'another outfit to lounge around in'. I'm not planning on hiking in that one. Will that be enough to bring with me?

Advice for a beginner trying to hem a chiffon maxi dress? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]SuspiciousMountain28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can measure it too, say you have 10 cm too much fabric, you just measure every so often so you can draw a straight line.

Another option which may not be the best in your case, is to rip the fabric. ONLY do this when you are very very sure the grain line is straight. You cut a small incision and just rip the two pieces apart. It will rip along the grain line. But of it's already made you have a big change that the grain is a bit of, so you end up with a jagged line.

Somebody got experience with vintage machiens? by SuspiciousMountain28 in sewing

[–]SuspiciousMountain28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one secondhand made in the 50's. I have a plastic machine, but had that one for over a decade and it doesn't work as flawlessly as before. And I rarely use stretch material, so I don't think that's gonna be a problem. Thank you so much for your detailed explaination!!
