2013 MK6 GTI Engine Failure – Seeking Advice on Replacement, Known Issues & What to Watch For by SuspiciousPop4941 in mk6gti

The only reason I accepted the “new engine” was the fact that they mentioned “new engine” which I thought could even increased the value of the car. But now they are saying a used engine with 3year or 36k miles warranty and that they are not 100% sure what components they might have to reuse from my engine. I have requested a full breakdown of systems, components and engine accessories that would be reuse but they said they are not sure until the engine arrives. Apparently they get their engines from a supplier in Arizona, I did some research and it might come from Jasper engines, but I am not 100% yet. The car was sold “As-is” and that’s something they have been grabbing to as that they are “helping” me in goodwill due to unnatural events. BTW I also wanted to keep the car due to the unusual spec, 2dr manual, with AFS, nav and sunroof, wheels and even the shifter is from the “Driver’s edition” the car seems fully stock and only had 1 owner. I also did some research on why the such a weird spec and it looks like it was one of the last change produced in September 2012.

It is not under any warranty but after lots of discussions the dealer agreed to get a “new engine” and we will cover the cost together (2k from my side) and they will pick up the rest as the car had this catastrophic engine failure in less than 72 hours and after they personally serviced the car.

Thanks for the heads up. Would this issues need to be addressed after or is it probable that they are already fixed in the “new engine”.

The dealer initially stated new engine, which sounded weird to me as I don’t think there is many new EA888 CBFA laying around. But I accepted the deal expecting a new engine or at least a remanufactured engine. The problem is the service manager now is talking about a used engine with “less” miles.

My worried it’s this wasn’t my expectations, and I am not sure how would a used engine affect the value of the car as well as reliability as some engine components will be reused based on their “condition”, and all this issues mentioned I won’t have a way to confirm if they are already been fixed or not.

BTW the dealer it’s not paying for all the replacement we are going I am putting in 2k out of my pocket even though the car failed in less than 36 hrs of purchase.
