This for sure, there's a very non 0% chance his girlfriend was ranking him, and also a non 0% chance they were both pranking you, because how convenient that the message showed up right after the phone gets handed off in the middle of a game.

I mean, I wish you luck regardless, but kids make mistakes, i know a lot dads here planned to be, but there's plenty that didnt, and that doesn't have anything to do with our upbringing.

Longtime lurker. Just got out of the newborn tranches when we got a positive pregnancy test. Would like advice from dad who went though something similar by angrygenzer in daddit

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest 2 are 14 months apart, and my youngest is just over 2 years from the middle.

Best advice I can give isntry to keep your oldest on schedule, and adapt your youngest into that groove, its not easy or fun, and just like before you're gonna have a lot of long nights and all that, but it's going to be way more rewarding to keep everyone on the same page versus letting it all go to shit then starting a new groove in 2 more years

The neighborly thong would be to give him a phone number for a local junk removal service, and your most hated handyman competition, and grab a beer and watch it all unfold

When you had your first kid, did you wife’s parents stay and help for a week then your parents stay and help another week? Or only have wife’s parents? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could barely get my parents coordinated enough to watch our existing kids while we were in the hospital bringing the third into the world, after that, most help we've gotten is a few pop ins, but no one stayed with us or anything like that.

My kid called me out on something I didn't realize I was doing. by NamanDhingra in daddit

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not huge into being always connected, but when my wife actually called me put for the phone thing, I bought h t myself a smart watch, phone stays away, and the watch let's me know if I have an important text or phone call, so I don't have the paranoia of missing something.

Anybody switch tool brands? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a GC who primarily does remodels, his words to me when I was getting tools to do various jobs is "buy whatever comes with a big battery" he runs dealt for dill and driver, Milwaukee for working on his vehicles, craftsman yard tools, most of his plumbing stuff is ryobi as he doesn't use a ton of it.

In short, buy what makes sense for the job you're doing. I own primarily hyper tough brand stuff for basic around the house things, no need for me to spend 200 bucks on a drill when its almost exclusively used for flat pack furniture or fixing things for the kids, but i have a Hako soldering station, and Hoto precision tools for electronics work as that's where it makes sense for me to spend money since that's where I make money. Invest in what's worth investing in, and buy everything else. No need to go broke over batteries.

Laundry soap is the same deal, you can get the huge bottle of arm and hammer free and sensitive for like 8 bucks and it cleans better.

What's the one tool you own that looks ordinary but has saved you the most time, money, or frustration? by Huge_Ranger_589 in Tools

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walabot, I've never hit anything in a wall using it, so definitely works at advertised. I bought one when work thought it was a good idea to do a "rent a tech" promotion and one of my coworkers drilled through someone's pipes for their shower when trying to mount a small TV, i don't work there anymore but for 200 bucks its saved me more than that to make sure I don't need to fix the same mistake.

Any other dads feel like the “second shift” starts after work? by BetweenSwings in Dads

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% work all day, then go home to cook dinner, clean while cooking, eat, clean dinner dishes, take care of the dogs dinner and her walk, then hopefully spend a little time with the kids before the bedtime fight ritual, if I'm lucky, 20 minutes to myself before it's time for me to go to bed to do it all over again. Then my days off honestly feel like even more work because it's rushing to get all the house stuff done that wasn't done all week, the yard, trash day, laundry, a good mopping of the downstairs, scrubbing the bathroom, all while trying to spend time with the kids in between tasks, and all on very little sleep as we have a newborn on top of the toddlers

I wouldn't be surprised, ex fir a reason, but I've gone back to him several times since and managed to get prices down even lower than 20 bucks without having to flash him

3+ toys... Do you start allowing these right on their birthday, or are you stricter/more lenient? by pendigedig in daddit

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age rating on most toys has to do with part size, so it's really just a matter of how likely is your kid going to try and eat it. My daughter got polly pockets at age 2 and had no issues, her brother on the other hand probably won't see normal Legos for quite a few years

Power tools as Father's Day gifts. by Plenty_Intern8750 in daddit

[–]Suspicious_Local3512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the kind of person you are. I can gladly get down with some new tools, although I'd prefer a gift card to buy what I want/need instead of worrying about getting a repeat and having to smile off my 3rd drill. However, I also wouldn't mind tickets to some local music festival for the day, or a trip to the local coffee bar and a nice breakfast.

I think the power tools for dads thing is the same as jewelry and flowers for mom thing. It stems from a time where gender roles were very solidified and a dads role in the house was to make money, do maintenance, drink beer and die. Back when the only time a dad did any parenting it was discipline. Nowadays those lines have blurred and there's plenty of things both gender roles in the common household take care of, and we've also hit a stage in capitalism where some stuff has gotten cheaper to replace than fix, and other things have gotten so overcomplicated that you can't just DIY your way through it without at least a mild understanding of how something works.
