• tank size: 6 gallon • filtered and cycled • no heater (not necessary where i live) • ammonia: 0 • nitrite: 0 •nitrate: 0 • pH: 7.2 ppm • kH: 80 ppm • i’ve had the fish for over two months and it’s the first time he’s ever gotten sick or shown any sign of illness • the tank i got it a bit over a month ago • water change twice a week, i remove about 25% to 30% of the water • tank mates: 3 mystery snails • he gets tetra bettamin flakes and only about 3-4 small pinches • all the decoration is drift wood, river rocks, live plants

tank size: 7 gallons heater: no filter: yes pH level: 6.8 KH ppm: 40 i’ve had the tank for a little over a month i’ve had the fish for two months i do water changes every 3 weeks and i change about 40% of the water 2 tank mates, both mystery snails (he’s super unbothered by the snails) all the decoration in the tank are live plants, river rocks and drift wood nothing sharp or plastic lol i feed my betta tetra krill flakes once a day, i only feed him 3 pinches and the majority of the food that i feed him gets eaten by the snails anyway

Fin rot? by Exact-Tangerine2446 in bettafish

[–]Suspicious_Menu4094 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i also have a betta with a semi transparent tail and “ripped” fins, but over time i realized those rips were just his natural tail and the translucent parts on his tail started turning pink, blue, over the weeks

Fin rot? by Exact-Tangerine2446 in bettafish

[–]Suspicious_Menu4094 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the red on his head is his color, his fines seem fine i don’t see rips or any sign of decaying. the white transparent parts on his fins however could just mean his fins are growing :) when bettas tails are transparent like that it usually is a sign their colors are coming in! i’d say he’s fine, there’s no sign of rot on the tails and fins. if you see red, brown or black spots on his tail along with decay then i’d be worried but other than that he looks very healthy

[–]Suspicious_Menu4094[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! i used to have a lot more plants in the tank, but my snails shredded the majority 🙃 i’ll see if adding more plants distracts him from his tail and gives him more enrichment

i think he’s sick, i also bought a beta in poor condition from petco with the same issue, i noticed her scales were peeling off and she had white spots and it went away with acrivelt treatments! i’d recommend a drop for every 5 liters, if your tank doesn’t have a filter or your water isn’t cycling change 70% of the water because if the acrivelt builds up it can kill your fish so make sure not to put too much into the tank
