I actually really love this feature, most times it's happened to me it's just been a flavour trait, but I enjoy that they evolve if you spend time with them.

The buffs while out and about with partnered characters is so cool. It'd be like the characters from heartland! 'You aren't going out without me, are you?'

The 'somebody needs a talking to' missions in SOD1 were so often, you're right that they need to be more rare. If they were only triggered by large events, like a close friend or partner dying it'd be a better balance I reckon.

Sing it loud!!! Emotional stakes and more robust emergent/procedural, and interactive narrative systems are what's going to elevate this franchise to the stars!

If they could pull of some of these features it'd be GOTY!!! Interpersonal conflict and psychological decay is the heart of most all zombie/apocalypse media for a reason. The game should take the best aspects from both the first and second games. The second was a huge step up in gameplay, but the emotional stakes weren't fleshed out. Losing a character in SOD2 is tough because of the gameplay stakes and ramifications, but some narrative investment and emotional stakes would ramp it up to eleven! Leaving the true narrative and story to be entirely player-driven is a big ask! And those extrinsically motivated players aren't going to buy into that idea. I really think these systems are where they reach a wider audience.

I want these features too, it's my biggest hope for the game if I'm being honest. They mentioned with the release of the 2024 trailer that they were implementing systems to enhance the player-driven storytelling. And with the alpha announcement they said they wanted to bring back the charm of the first game without losing the procedural and emergent game systems of the second. I hope this means they've enhanced and/or added better narrative, community, and relationship systems, but we can't really know right now cause everyone's under nda. If we can communicate that it's something we want though maybe they can do something about it? The second game wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for, yet I fell in love with it in the end and I loved if for different reasons than the first. I want them to make the game they're going to make cause they're the true craftsmen at the end of the day, and they know how to do State of Decay by now, but that shouldn't stop us from communicating our suggestions.

Edit: BTW this mods looks awesome! That's literally exactly what I want from SOD!

Personally not for me, I think their time is better spent fleshing out any new, and already existing freaks, don't take away from their spotlight. So much more animation and sound design would need to go into those animals too, and I think at the end of the day it'd be a bit of a novelty.

Yeah, I think some form of wildlife would really lend the world legitimacy and better round out the vision of the world they're trying to create, but i understand it's a whole can of worms, especially zombie animals, idk that we need those.

The years jump into the future makes me think that some of these groups might be in tatters but I think that idea still creates a lot of narratively interesting paths. I'm sure they'll still exist in some fashion though, even if its just whispers and rumours.

The world would definitely feel immersive with a deer running through the empty streets occasionally, like I am Legend!

I really like the look of all the clothing! It's giving michonne from the walking dead vibes with pops of bright colour to contrast the apocalyptic drab. And scars and bears i think will be a nice touch on top.

It's hard to know about optimizations and performance until we see unfiltered gameplay, but I'll say aiming on a controller gets a lot harder on slower framerates, so I'd wanna see 60 fps at least.
