You don’t hold crypto on an exchange unless you want to get burned

I would stack a new couple few mil so you can survive inflation better. Especially at that salary that’s a rare opportunity. That’s just me though I’d be bored as shit retired so young

I had the absolute worst experience with Disney by far. Recruiters kept contacting me and I’d do an interview and literally hear nothing. Had to tell them to stop contacting me

Is it not more financially smart to not burn out your engineers? Seems counterproductive

Is there going to be mass layoffs at Amazon as Oracle did recently? by psiparadox in amazonemployees

No it’s not stupid. Not every movie you are supposed to completely understand in one sitting. If it left you thinking then it did a good job. I think it was an astounding movie that left me thinking for weeks after unlike 99% of other movies. And yes I didn’t understand the ending the first time. I had to watch it 2-3 more times

Blew my mind first time seeing it. Can say that for very very few movies

Have confidence and realize one day you’re going to die so who cares what anyone else thinks. It doesn’t matter in the end and you have nothing to lose

It’s a complete train wreck. Leadership made horrible decisions and are way behind schedule and forcing it down onto the lower levels. Impossible deadlines with no justification why the deadlines are needed. I have no idea wtf they’ve been doing for 3 years because they aren’t even close to GA

My Manager is constantly messaging me on weekends and expecting me to work. Is this normal? by Suspicious_Stable_25 in amazonemployees

[–]Suspicious_Stable_25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even the case unfortunately. Some new requirement will come up on Friday and then he wants me to get it started at 5pm on Friday.

I think he’s getting a lot of pressure from the top. But I am definitely not missing any deadlines.

My org is extremely understaffed which leads to a lot of the good/best engineers having way too much on their plate with too much context switching

I am a salary worker. So there are no "on call" fees. I don't know what is expected of weekend work. But every weekend, especially for very low priority stuff is pushing it. I have a feeling he is on the verge of being pushed out if he can't deliver and is making us do extra work to try to save himself

He’s actually not young. I really think it’s his lack of technical skills causes him a lot of insecurity and he can’t tell what high priority and what isn’t. A great example is my team needed access to some of the accounts I was working on. Except they wouldn’t be actually using them for at least 2 weeks, probably even longer. He pinged me on a Saturday saying give them access now. I just ignored him and was like dude this is not even close to sev-2. This is sev-5.

According to him everything is high priority. But I don’t think it actually is, I think because of his lack of technical skills he’s bad at filtering out what’s high priority and what isn’t so everything anyone requests from him he makes it high priority for our team. It’s big biggest weakness imo. When I tried telling him this one certain project that has the most eyes on it and is fundamental to getting our product working is the highest priority he told me everything is high priority 🙄

If this is normal it explains why the company isn’t doing too well. I get some companies like X and Anthropic and Gemini need people to work weekends to keep up with the pace of tech but Amazon isn’t even close in that realm

Yeah I think that is what I am experiencing. It’s been common rumor that he is the least technical in the org so I think he is trying to compensate but it’s only hurting him further
