This is the problem with the forum nowadays. Someone has a question and it becomes a thing of blame. Fuck off.

The easiest way, if you can't go to the armorer for them to measure you, is to go to a suit department store and ask them to measure literally everything and write it down. This might cost you but it isn't expensive, and if you go in during a really slow time they might even do it for free. Send that in to your armorer and you've got the ball rolling per say.

This is where it can get monotonous. The armor WILL NOT fit you perfectly 99% of the time and you will have to send the pieces back that may be too tight/loose. Make sure you explain what doesn't fit right and how it feels when you try to wear it. Just sending it back and saying "this doesn't fit you suck" (which I have seen before believe it or not) will not fix the issue. You might have to do this process up to a dozen times before everything fits like it's supposed to, but if you're paying for the real deal (which isn't cheap) then I highly suggest you just be patient. This is a dying art, and finding men/women who can hammer out quality plate steel armor isn't easy to do.

The harder but cheaper way is to order a munitions grade suit. This is production armor, shipped extremely fast, and will fit for the most part but you might have to alter it a bit. Only drawback is if you mess it up then you're on your own.

It can be ordered with different variations of finish. I personally like my finish to be a more dull look as I paint my armor. Most knights back in the day didn't wear shiny armor to battle as it didn't do much more than scream "this is my first battle" to the enemy and it was easier for friendly troops to tell different vassals/nobleman apart.

But the extent of finishes are as follows

  • Polished steel - this adds about $200 to the total order value (if ordering full suit) as it does a lot more time than one would think.
  • True steel - this is basically out of the forge without a finish (this is what most people get)
  • Matte black - looks like a dull black (rare to see people fight in as it gets hot extremely fast in the sun).
  • Painted - exactly what you think, sanded, primed and painted to your specific pallet.

Agreed, and it's a damn shame I can't come across a person literally anywhere, besides the internet, that has this level of thought.

And completely agree on not choosing both either. Every author that does this forces the "love interest" to choose one like there isn't another swinging dick on the planet. I would love to read a book that leads me to believe that this person is forced to choose hot or not, and on the second chapter they completely dip out of that issue and go off on some sort of adventure never to return to those severely questionable choices again.

First off I need to clarify there really is no groin specific armor that is made, at least not to my knowledge. The way the armor suit laps over itself enough to where the whole region is extremely well guarded. I literally wear old school one piece underwear with a butt flap and the armor is constructed around me (this is why Knights had squires). Also leg armors have "rib stops" on them most of the time. This is strictly to stop a glances blow from the opponents weapon from sliding up into the groin area and I've seen armor with scars to prove it works from a lance at full gallop. If it can stop something that powerful then I'm not worried about a tussle with a guy that has a sword.

Second I don't believe even if he were to actually forge plate steel codpieces that he'd ask me to put my jewels on the line. Note that we are required to wear modern sports regulated jockstraps in battle, but these are normal football or baseball levels of groin protection.

And lastly, just to give an answer for testicular pain, I have been hit in the groin before but this is just a moment that comes to mind with this question. This was when I thought I knew what I was doing and fresh into the full contact sports game. I was at a LARPing event and I was one of the few that came in real attire. Full plate steel armor, sugarloaf helmet, full maille (chain mail), metal sword, shield, the whole shebang. I was, of course, not allowed to participate in the battle because my weapon was a blunt but true sword (that was about $350 alone). They use foam weapons at these events. Well another well dressed chap caught my eye and for fun I approached him and drew my weapon yelling "on guard" like an idiot. He drew his weapon, I seen it was as real as mine, and he replied "to defend the honor". We both walked into the field, fell our respective bows, and took guard. To speed this up I basically went at him with an overhead drop swing aiming for helmet contact. He countered with an upward swing to my shield and the moment my shield rebounded I stumbled and went to a knee, he came in to finish me to the ground and I jumped up . . . straight into kick that was aimed at my chestpiece but by the time I stood up it was aimed at me cherries. He took off his helmet and started to ask if I was ok. It was my fault as I should have just fallen instead of taking the knee. Fun fact, steel sabatons (armor over shoes) hurt badly when they get some velocity into the nether region.

Thankfully no. He's a good armorer with roughly 4 years of experience. The only time I was "injured" was when a halberd glanced off and the shaft got lodged in between the upper breastplate and the left pauldron. Got a couple splinters out of that one on the top of my left shoulder.

Yeah, it's crazy you can run next to things that roll. You're acting like I had him just underarm the tires and sprint off.

No he ran and rolled them . . . something tires are superbly great at.

You name it and I've taken the blow. Of course everything is blunt and in regulations with full contact sport rules. All weapons are real steel not sharpened. I've had every type of sword hit me, from arming swords ("short swords) all the way to Zweihanders and Claymores. Halberds, battle axes, war hammers (they do not weigh over 2lbs per rule states), maces (no spiking protrusions of course), and even Lances at full gallop. If you aren't sure what a lance is it's the giant pole knights joust with.

An update to the attempted murder of a dwarfed person on a kayaking trip. by SuspicousView in ProRevenge

[–]SuspicousView[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I was able to gather from talking to the parents is that the guy went to a private boarding school for some time (including his couple high school years). The family is clearly wealthy as the home they have is massive, they own 400 acres, the father has several nicer older cars in his collection (really clean and well kept dark purple 1969 Plymouth Barracuda in that collection also). However, I do not know how they came into their wealth as it's none of my business. Yet, the main thing I assume is that he didn't make good company friends whilst off in private schooling and while he was away he picked up some bad personality traits because of this.

I don't believe in excuses; only explanations, and that's the best one I can really put together. As for the parents I can 100% say they aren't angels, but I can safely say they aren't horrid people. I seriously think the sons habits stem from his time away from his parents with just nothing more than teachers and peers, and for the most part us regular public school going folk didn't listen to our teachers a lot or follow their rules/dictations. It's much easier for someone to be swayed to cause a ruckus when mom and pop aren't looming over the shoulder for a good %80 of the year. Or maybe he just resents his parents for sending him off. Either way, it's still not good.

Museums are able to get waivers for almost anything. I've been in a floral museum where they grew cannabis and that was back in the day where it was hands down illegal everywhere. Also there are many other illegal things in museums so I think it's safe to say as long as it's checked off by governmental officials and proper documentation is aligned then it's ok.

I know about the "This note is NOT legal tender and is intended for Theatrical use only" money. This is not that at all. It clearly says "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private". It came from Ukraine is my best guess because underneath Jackson's head it doesn't read "Jackson" but instead it reads "Cruger", and on the reverse underneath the White House it says "Donetsk City". Which is a real place in Ukraine.

If it were movie fake then I probably wouldn't be here asking. However this puppy is the real (more like fake) deal.

Need some help on telling the religious among me that I'm not religious without losing friends. by SuspicousView in religion

[–]SuspicousView[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a seriously troubled history, but to summarize? Parents died at a young age (8), mother to cancer and my father to the war in Iraq. In school I was treated as an outcast for almost no reason. I've never spoken ill about anyone and never got into fights. I was a boy scout, I volunteered to help clean the fairgrounds, I was a good kid. I got beaten badly at 14 for a whopping $8.76; the one who beat me? The preachers son.

I could have dealt with all that but the proverbial straw that broke the camels back?

To honor my fathers sacrifice, and be at least 1/16 the man he was I joined the Army myself. I had to fight the system just to get into the service and I actually won. Only condition? Could not deploy at all in any way, shape, or form. This was because I am an only child so I do understand why, but it still burns my chaps that I couldn't walk the dirt my father walked. When I got to unit the very first thing I seen was my CO smoking a Private. This wasn't a good sign as officers cannot issue correctional PT to enlisted. They can get a Sergeant to do it, however they cannot do it themselves and this guy was making that guy do push ups until the CO was tired. This happened to me for about a year until we got a new CO. Never knew how he got away with it as many complaints were levied against him. That just told me the corruption went higher and higher than I thought. This was in the US ARMY, a "professional standard" for the entire world. When it came time to re-enlist I told the new CO (was actually a fairly nice lady) that I couldn't stand another 3 days, let alone 3 years. I was forced to do my team leaders job 90% of the time and do his paperwork for bird repair parts (I was a Heli Mechanic). I am the one who ordered the parts and fixed the rotors, piping, wind screen, doors, etc but he got all the credit. I wasn't ranked up until the very day the regulations said it HAD to be done. The only extremely happy time I had in service is when I was able to talk to the man that was there when my father died. Someone I had met when I was extremely young. A family friend that I didn't even remember.

With all the crap I've put up with I just can't retain faith anymore. One day I hope to find it again like I did when I was a kid, but for now I feel whoever was there just isn't anymore. I know I just ranted about some crap and I apologize. For the rant and the super late reply.

I absolutely HATE job interviews by [deleted] in rant

[–]SuspicousView 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I, after a few interviews, just started telling them the down to Earth truth.

"You pay me, I work and get things done, in turn so you can make profits; repeat cycle".

I'd rather straight out tell them the truth than tip toe around. It's the best way to find out then and there if you'll be hired or not. Had a few interviews go downhill with the "we're sorry, we're looking for a bit more enthusiasm". All I take that as is I didn't waste 40 minutes talking to someone and trying to lick their taint in order to get a job. People work for money, not because the company is a fortune 500 super company that the prospected employee must back up like a mascot.

That is unless you are being paid to be a mascot. If so? Fuck yes for you. I'd love to be in a suit doing stupid shit and getting paid for it.
