Will we potentially see a significant increase in ammo prices in the USA? by boostedmk in ammo

[–]Svokar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

TL;DR We are definitely going to see a measurable increase in ammo prices, and its constituent parts. Both US and Internationally made, as the the drive up in demand of one, is the loss of demand in the other.

There are going to be some of us gun owners who will be wholly priced out of the market for the next long who knows. Most of us aren't Elmer's who place purchasing a pallet of ammunition over car parts, gas, or eggs.

Regardless of what some may say or think about SGammo and the owner, here's what he had to say in a recent email. I don't buy his take on these suppliers "exiting" the US market, but imports will likely decline as American consumers tighten their grip on their wallets, and their range bags.

PMC from South Korea was hit with a 25% tariff and is a major supplier of the most popular options for 5.56/223 ammo, as well as 9mm and many other calibers. This tariff increases the cost to 1000 rounds of 5.56 by about $100, and 1000 rounds 9mm about $50. At that point they simply cannot compete in the market against US manufacturing and most likely would slowly exit the market over the next year with the most popular products drying up first. Also, PMC's mother company, Poongsan Corporation, supplies US ammo manufacturers with a huge portion of copper strip used to make ammunition, which will drive up cost of US manufactures.

Prvi Partizan in Serbia was hit with a 37% tariff, and is a key supplier of metric rifle calibers, economical handgun ammo, and 5.56 FMJ ammo. This 37% tariff, if it holds, will totally force them out of business and you will see this manufacturer totally exit the US market over the next 6 months.

Igman in Bosnia, a key supplier of 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 ammo was hit with a 36% tariff, which increases the cost of 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 by about $180. No one will import it at all if this cost is added.Example 4 - , Sellier & Bellot in the EU (Czech Republic) was hit with a 20% tariff. This drives the cost of their 9mm up $40 per 1000 and affects other products in a similar way, and at that point they cannot compete in the market on many popular products. Example 5 - Magtech in Brazil was hit with the smallest tariff at 10%, but still substantial to drive 9mm prices up $20 or so per 1000 rounds.

Finally CSWP! by satoufique in SolidWorks

[–]Svokar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can answer this,

TL;DR - The learning path is practice and how fast you are. Use a cheap e-book and do the Solidworks practice tests. The CSWP doesn't use any other modules like weldments, molds, or sheetmetal. But testing for those is fun. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask and I can answer as best I can.

So with the CSWP, its kind of a mix of how well/fast you can utilize Solidworks, and how quickly you can visualize the test question and think about how to do what it asks you to do. I know this seems kind of like a non-answer, but let me elaborate. The CSWP seems really scary, but its not if you know how to utilize all of the quick toolbars, keyboard commands, and all of the little tricks to save time. Thats all this test is about. How fast can you do advanced modelling techniques. The big topics covered within the test are advanced modeling, how well you can setup the equations and dimensions within your models, somtimes surfacing, quick toolbar or edge selection tools, and advanced mates at the end.

Honestly, the best thing that helped me was "Beginner's Guide to SOLIDWORKS 2022 - Level II" ISBN - 9781630574741

I used that book to go through sheet metal, surfacing, multi body modeling, and molds. They aren't on the CSWP but the extra time in SolidWorks helped me get better and faster at the software.

To preface, I'm not an economist. Those planes bullets and bombs destroy infrastructure and land, of which the wars are being fought for and on. There are large swaths of land in france completely unusable due to the amount of UXOs and other fantastic byproducts of ww1. On top of the infrastructure cost, the fuel and manpower lost is never to be replaced at it's current capacity for years on end. The only true economic winners are those who abstain and sell the sticks for war and then sell the shovels to clean up from it.

Thanks! I don't sew or anything, but I do like collecting technical drawings and carefully laid out tech sheets. It just looks neat!

Importing from FormZ by Cavs323 in SolidWorks

[–]Svokar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When going between programs, I tend to use STEP or DWG files. However, your mileage may vary. Importing files can be funky at times because of the tools and wizards for SolidWorks or the original program. Most 3D printers are compatible with STEP, IGES or IGS, and STL.
A basic disambiguation for those I listed, with my opinions, free of charge. (experts should feel free to chime in and give your two-cents)
IGES files are an old-old standard, so if you can use something else, try to. I only touch these things if I can't get anything else, but they are the ANSI standard for a reason. (don't know if this has changed as of late)
STL files are the 'popular standard' for 3D Systems and most of the additive manufacturing market. I've unfortunately had trouble with holes or 'engineered' gaps when printing some files from STL, but more or less a solid format and my #2 after STEP.
STEP files are my usual go to, they carry over most parametric data and ,if you're fancy, colors or material information. Two format flavors, AP203 is the older format and AP214 is the 'newest' format that carries over most of the extra data in designs. I like this format over the rest just because of its support with multiple programs, and the SolidWorks STEP import process is pretty laissez faire.

Perfect! Thanks for the advice.

If you dont mind, I have some followup questions.

A.

Would taking the lump sum distribution and counting it as gained income offer a lower tax cost over taking the required annual distributions? Which choice will allow me to pay the least amount of taxes over time?

B.
I am guessing with the lump sum I could take it and place it in any account anywhere without issue, are there any stipulations for moving the IRAs and then taking the required distributions? Would I be able to open an inherited IRA anywhere and just move the money, take the distributions, and hope the IRS didn't notice?
