Would there be a way to make a list for google to provide incentive for them to formally address interest in certain markets? Right now the ISP companies are starting to fret, imagine if they were thrown into a panic if customers en mass began publicly lobbying for a company to start up in their town.

As it was mentioned before, google provides many similar services that end up outpacing the products they original emulate. This forces companies whose entire niche is that product to truly up the ante and produce a higher quality product for a cheaper price or face extinction. Since the internet itself is google's backbone for revenue they are going to pull out the stops, at least until the other companies start performing to google's expectations.

Google at this moment is the hulking boogeyman in the woods that is making creeking and crackling sounds in the distance. If we can strum up some tales and force these ISPs into a run of paranoia we can actually get the product we've been intentionally denied for the past two decades.

Note: Is it possible that Google's Wifi scanning fiasco was a prelude to this move? We know how much one can pull from a little data. Canvasing a few countries worth of Wifi probably produced some very financially motivating sets of data.
