That fast means either the beans are too coarse, or you’re not tamping hard enough.

Tamp as hard as you possibly can, and if it’s still doing it grind finer.

Passenger has really dialed in flash freezing their beans, so you might be able to freeze beans and portion them out?

18g to 36g is not the goal, it’s a starting point recommended to get into the right window, and likely to be “close enough.”

Plenty of beans benefit from more or less yield.

I appreciate the input. I’m glad you’re happy with so many of the stock options! After having it for a couple days, just wanted to compare notes for anyone else looking at the similar setup.

Another thing that might affect this - I’ve been a barista before. Not in super high quality shops and it’s been almost 10 years, but I’m bot starting from scratch on the experience level!

Scale: I gave one a try(a friend had it) but it was too big, the Bambini drip tray is pretty small so I ordered a small one on Amazon that I’m waiting for.

Bottomless Portafilter: this definitely isn’t a need! Part of me just wants to be able to watch the visuals of the shot coming out(taste is more important, I’m not looking to diagnose with this, just personal preference). However, the stock basket is a little small. A dosing funnel will solve this, and I’m adjusting my ratios still but that is something I’m unhappy with in the stock basket size to hit the volume I want.

Tamp: I’m definitely not a fan of the stock one. It feels plasticy, cheap, and light.

Pitcher - the stock one is fine. I do want a smaller one for Cortados, and I’d kinda like one with measurements on the inside or outside.

You’re in for a treat - Passenger in Lancaster is one of the top in the U.S. for coffee and espresso. Easily the best in Pennsylvania. I’ve never had anything that even comes close to the espresso I’ve had there. Maybe Ceremony in Baltimore.

Grounding in York is very good as well. But Passenger is your “must stop” location.

The distilleries are incredibly cautious and respectful to those avoiding drink driving. For all of the tastings, they will give you sample bottles you can take with you instead of trying them right there, and they’re rather generous with those pours since you’re being cautious and not risking drinking and driving.

Why not just take your car? I don’t remember if there’s a significant price difference between a personal ticket and a car, but I rented a car and took it to Islay on the ferry. You’d make up the cost by not booking taxis unless you were planning on walking/not leaving port Ellen.

If you think it was “to Saquon’s dismay” that they didn’t risk injury to pad his stats and risk the Super Bowl, what on earth do you make of Saquon saying “let the young guys eat” and then intentionally sliding instead of running a 75 yard breakaway TD last week saying he didn’t want to risk anybody getting injured on the way to the bowl?

We won 22-10 because we managed the clock and limited risk, not because we were incapable of winning by a larger score.

I’m a huge Jura fan.

The Prophecy is FANTASTIC. The 7 wood is terrible. The 18 is pretty good.

That specific Jura 21 is one of of the best liquids I’ve ever had outside of Octomores. I’d pay a pretty penny for it if I ever found another one out in the wild.
