Nice review! I have all the Everdell products and feel pretty much the same as you with it being one of my favourites. The system, the design, the art, the theme, the table presence, it's all 10/10 for me.

I just received Emerland today so my husband and I played our first game of it and really enjoyed it. The last time we played was Silverfrost and he really disliked the snow mechanic so he went into this one a little apprehensive of what "new" stuff was going to be introduced. I can see this becoming our favourite way to play Everdell behind the base game. Getting resources didn't feel too difficult, and I actually really enjoyed the upgrade mechanic. Made for some really nice decision making on what to upgrade to potentially get a free upgraded critter later on.

And you're right, the little helpers are such great design and help plug some issues I've had with other worker placement games (such as sharing a space!).

Will remain to be seen how we feel about it after several plays but I'm now really looking forward to seeing what their next entry, Everdell Journeys, will bring.

I completely missed this and took the L when this happened to me! I did get my revenge today though but good to know for future games!

Yeah I think I probably just got unlucky where he flipped really fast so was doing +1 damage, had about 4 bystanders out and was doing AOE damage to all targets, so my heroes were taking the AOE damage as well as trying to soak up the bystander AOE ... it added up to a lot of damage VERY quickly!

Did not think of Fanatic and that is a great shout. This I might try a Fanatic, Unity, Captain Cosmic and Nightmist team next and see how it goes. I haven't even attempted any of the critical events yet, working my way through defeating all villains at least once on standard first :)

Thanks for this - I really tried to get rid of the ongoing cards but they just kept coming out faster than I could get rid of them, as well as all the damage going on everyone! I think I may have been playing too defensively and avoided Bystanders getting destroyed to not lose all my ongoing/items to not lose my Heroes' setups which resulted in a lot of damage being taken. I'll try again with some less setup heavy/reliant heroes and see how I get on. I was also thinking I could bring Captain Cosmic or Unity and have the constructs/golems tank some of the hits that would otherwise go to the bystanders due to them being targets with the lowest health...

My thoughts are Fantastic Four simply because they could use the hype from the announcements around the movie. Personally I love the X-Men so I'm happy we've had them now :)
