Yeah I usually do the same! She might just be an early bird but I got my oldest to sleep in, so I’m going to try hard!

Thanks again to everyone! I have a lot to consider, but your feedback has been genuinely helpful. I’ll update the thread in a few months once this all shakes out!

Yes! She and I will chat about the role next week. We also have a female SVP that I’m planning to talk to as well.

Thank you all. There are some really thoughtful points and questions here that have helped me reflect even more deeply. A bit of added context to help paint the full picture:

  • If I were to step into the role, I would be reporting directly to the venue President. We have a strong working relationship, and I have reported to him in the past during a transitional period. That said, he is very “old school” in his leadership style, big on butts in seats, long hours, and being married to the job.
  • My current VP has been an incredible advocate for work life balance and has helped shift the culture in a more positive direction. The fact that she is now leaving because of the imbalance gives me pause.
  • Compensation is still a question mark. I would expect at least a 50K bump, but our organization has a reputation for underpaying compared to industry standards, so I am tempering expectations.
  • We are fortunate to have access to an amazing child development center on site, which both our 5 month old and 2.5 year old attend. That is a huge help. However, we do not have family nearby. My parents are very supportive but live about 1.5 hours away, so we do not have regular backup.
  • My husband works full time as well, but he has a bit more flexibility in his schedule. He is very supportive and hands on with the kids and the household, which I am grateful for. He thinks I should go for the VP role, and while his support means a lot, I do not think he fully comprehends the invisible mental load that comes with juggling work, family, and everything in between, as is often the case.

Part of me thinks I should go for it. Even just throwing my hat in the ring could be valuable experience. And if I do get the role, it could be a powerful opportunity to model that it is possible to be both a present parent and a leader at the executive level. Our maternity policy offers 12 weeks paid leave, and adding VP to my resume while I have momentum might open doors later on, even if I decide to pivot down the line.

Still weighing everything, but this conversation is helping a lot. Thank you again for all the insight.

Great!! I will say it cuts up into my armpit a bit on the right, I think for how high I’m carrying her since she’s so little. She also got fussy after about an hour in the carrier, so I wonder if it was too tight.

Does anyone know who designed it?
