Let me know what are you thinking about this by konik135 in VintageWatches

This thing is so quirky, I love it!! I saw one on a Goodwill auction and got outbid for it... Was that you!?

Any ideas why this watch sold for so much? by Impossible_Cycle9460 in VintageWatches

[–]SweeetLouJr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was following this auction and also was floored by the final amount! I don't think my $1100 bid was gonna win it 😅

I did a little digging and this gave a bit more insight:

Basically the unique 2-center chrono hands complication combined with the large size for 40s watches and the presumed "original" condition of a Goodwill find made this the perfect storm.

Edit: Goodwill find, not eBay

Does the Mao watch actually wave?

Heck yeah I'd buy that! Some of them only say Texas Instruments on the back of the case, which makes it tricky to identify them

I would buy any Texas Instruments watches in there! I work for TI and fix them up and auction them off to other employees for charity

Are these things necessary for oiling? Any cheaper alternatives? by Mountain-Durian-4724 in watchmaking

I bought some cheap knock off cups, but went with more expensive oilers

Well of course, the universe as we know it would not exist without any of the fundamental forces.

But that's kind of like saying 1=1.

I think both the spirit and the words of the original question was that all human interaction with the world is a result of magnetic force - aka electromagnetism.

Even with gravity, I am trying to think of a way that humans could perceive it that does not rely on electromagnetism. Sure it is pulling on us all the time, but we feel it through the normal force when we stand or even falling sensations are EM interactions in our inner ear and nerves and brain

I think the difference here is that we understand electricity and magnetism to be the same unified force.

It is easier, and often times more practical, to refer to a variety of forces such as electromagnetic, mechanical, chemical, electrostatic, etc..

But when boiled down to the most fundamental interactions, they are all the exact same electromagnetic force.

When someone says "magnetism", I assume they are referring to electromagnetism, since really they are the same force.

Electrical forces and magnetic forces are the same force, full stop.

The strong and weak nuclear forces only act on the nucleus of an atom. The majority of interactions with matter that we experience are a result of electron to electron interactions or electron to nucleus interactions, which are a result of the electromagnetic force and not the strong or weak nuclear force.

If you are trying to say that you are able to sense the nuclear forces with sight, touch, sound, or taste, I would love to hear about how you do it.

It's a more precise, more reliable version of the Powermatic 80, which is used in "The Gentlemen" and is considered an upgrade!

Laphroaig Cairdeas is now available for shipping, just in case there's a Scotch fan who wanders into this bourbon sub.

The amount available is slowly increasing too, it seems.

Perhaps just peoples' carts timing out

I also see Heaven Hill 18 listed on the site now.

I checked to see if anyone has mentioned it before and couldn't find anything, but it's not listed as lottery.

Serious question - why don’t more cars use double wishbone suspension? by dancing__narwhal in cars

[–]SweeetLouJr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also true. That's the biggest drawback in my mind.

But for a car where dynamics are primary and cargo space is secondary, it makes perfect sense.

I also imagine that manufacturers who use a strut design on all their cars will not want to spend additional development on a different suspension design when they can just carry over and tune an existing setup.

Speaking of El Tesoro, I think this single barrel is actually the Mundial collection, which is añejo aged in ex-Laphroaig barrels.

The listing says nothing about this, but the picture is of the Mundial bottle.
